Official 2016 Boxing Thread: 11/5/2016 - Vargas/Pacquiao Top Rank PPV.

I said this in the mma thread, Conor at 28 is pooping on Floyd at 28.

That's what I been telling everybody, especially these "TMT" D-Riders here in Vegas.

Floyd fought once a year when he was making real money. McGregor will fight 3,4,5x a year. Making $30-40 Million a fight?

And if it goes his way, he'll get a share of UFC? Plus making $40Ms per fight?

:x :smh:

Where does it show he's making 40 mil a fight?
Not saying you're lying, but I just haven't seen anything the lines of how much he's making

McGregor isn't fighting 4 or 5 times a year buddy. He did in his early days, but since joint the UFC it's consistently been 2-3 times a year. He is making very good money, but he'll never be able to double dip the way Mayweather does as a boxer/promoter because MMA promotions are a lot more complicated.

Conor's highest payout to date is believed to be 15 Mil for the 2nd Diaz fight.

Floyd made 25 mil for the DLH fight (granted, Oscar was the draw) and he was probably around the same age.

I think that's kind of the point here. People are jumping the gun.

Especially since we have no idea if he'll get shares. That's a veeeery big can of worms you open once you do that.

More $$$ on PPV shares I could see though.

If the UFC does not give into his demands, can McGregor go to another organization? I don't know how is contract is structured.

It sounds like he still has fights left on his deal. He's saying he's "outgrown" his last contract. But I don't think it's run it's course.

Different ownership at the time, but this is the same org that took him off UFC 200 because he refused to do press.

He obviously has a **** ton of leverage. But even then, ownership will have to draw the line somewhere.

Goes like this in any sport. He can sit out if they don't agree. But there goes a large chuck of his revenue if he does.

But he can't go to another org unless his contract is done or they breach it.

Only way he fights outside of the UFC while under contract is if the UFC gets a hefty cut. Dana made that clear when the first talk of McGregor/Mayweather came up. Said it can absolutely happen, but it won't until Mayweather calls Dana directly.

It'll be interesting to see how things play because it very well could lead to McGregor sitting out like Ward did while trying to get out of his contract.

Look above your post for the answers you're looking for.

When all's said and done, he will have fought 3 times in 2015, and 3 times in 2016.

He's fought 4 times in the last 18 months unless you know about some underground fights he took part in. He's very active either way, but if you look at it by calendar year, he hasn't fought more than three times a year since 2011 when he was still in the little leagues. There were even two years when he only fought twice.

Either way he's still the biggest draw in MMA, but the promotional dynamic is not in his favor in spite of how much leverage he has. If he steps out on his contract the UFC's lawyers will tie him up in litigation for the rest of his life. This was touched on when Aldo said he wanted to retire and it came to light that the UFC's contracts typically bar athletes from taking part in any other professional sport while still under contract.

I like Conor McGregor, but I have doubts that he can maintain this much popularity and relevance for many years. He needs a real adversary like Mayweather did with Pacquiao.

GSP would have to come out of retirement and fight for the welterweight.

I guarantee that would also break records! GSP is the real deal!

GSP would also smash Woodley for the record, don't understand why dudes think Woodley would win.

This is a boxing thread! Take all this Man on Man Action to the mma thread
Now to our regular schedule programming Ward vs Kovalev

Mcgregor has been getting paid $40 mil per fight?

Link to source please
He ain't making no damn 40 million a fight lol. The article he posted said from all his efforts Conor believes he'll take home 40 million this year total lol. Keep in mind, that's Conor saying that. More likely it's less than that.

Yea it really only applies financially lol

How long has it been since Ward fought a world champ?
I hope it wasn't that Dawson fight lol

I think it was.

Ward is a superstar. I have no doubt he will keep Kovalev at a distance and pot shot him all night. Hes too quick for him and Kovalev will get frustrated toward the later rounds and start to open up even more.

at least in a pure skills sense.  He never did and probably will have the crossover appeal that the faces of this sport usually garner.

We are now almost 5 years removed from his last S6 and world class fight against Froch, and 4 years removed from Dawson if you consider a weight drained Dawson world class.

Yeah his mayweather appeal never materialize. Similar to Roy Jones. Roy was a little more of a showman, and one of the greats. Ward might eventually get there, He needs to start fighting and beating guys like KK. My question is after this fight, where does he go from here??
