Official 2016 Boxing Thread: 11/5/2016 - Vargas/Pacquiao Top Rank PPV.

Deontay Wilder and mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin are in talks for a May 21st title fight at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, promoter Lou DiBella told RingTV.com on Thursday.

DiBella said he spoke with Russian promoter Andrey Ryabinski about the framework of a deal for the WBC heavyweight title fight and is waiting to hear back.

Wilder, the WBC champion, has repeatedly said he won’t vacate the title and welcomes the challenge of facing Povetkin.

“I got Alexander Povetkin lined up,” Wilder told RingTV.com earlier this month. “That’s what I know of right now. I want to get Povetkin out of the way.”

Povetkin (30-1, 22 knockouts) is the No. 2-rated heavyweight in THE RING’s ratings while Wilder (36-0, 35 KOs) sits at No. 3. Povetkin’s lone loss came against Wladimir Klitschko via a decision in 2013.

Povetkin was ringside at Barclays Center last month when Wilder crushed Artur Szpilka with a right hand to end their bout in the ninth round. WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman has said that if a deal cannot be brokered in the voluntary negotiation phase between the Wilder and Povetkin camps, a purse bid will take place on Feb. 26.

Povetkin's looking like he is in his mid 20's.

Confirmed to me today by a PBC peep that one Haymon promoter was found to be skimming from Al, adding credibility to Glaser's story on Leon.

Smart move by Floyd, Eddie Hearn has a lot of rising stars. Brook, Quigg, Joshua, Degale and I probably left out a few others.

GGG already knocked out Geale. Anyway I think GGG should sign to Al Haymon. K2 and HBO are not doing him any favors. His last PPV bombed and he's going to be in no man's land forever.
haymon would get him paid, but who would he have him fight and what network would he fight on?

No way, GGG would be fighting even weaker bums TBH and wouldn't be on PPV and be further criticized like Wilder for too many mandatories. Which Al Haymon fighter has been on PPV so far except the retired one? At this point, if you're not named Canelo or Pacquiao. your PPV will bomb.

PBC is barely sustainable at this point.

To be honest, I don't see Cotto being a PPV guy today, not after his losses and his age. His PPV fight before Canelo, whom Cotto fought against Sergio Martinez didn't do as good as it should considering their names. I think his buys would flop today, which is why Geale vs Cotto was on HBO.

I would hypocritically pay money to watch Cotto vs Marquez though. Which is in talks right now to happen.

Yeah honestly I'm pretty bored with the matchups so far. Khan Canelo was the only splash and that's just more off shock factor. Need more interesting fights being made.

Thurman/Porter coming.

If Thurman wins, talk of a DSG fight. Though we'll see.

Hopefully Kovalev/Ward. And GGG/Canelo after these next fights.

All we can do is hope.

True, Thurman Porter should be legit, hi-tech vs Axe man too, and hopefully the rest of those big fights come through too.

But really just some solid Showtime or HBO or PBC cards would be nice. Just some Matthyse Molina type fights, Lara Angulo, Bradley vs Provo, Crawford vs Gamboa, Rigondeaux vs Big asian dude, Lemieux vs Ndam, even a Broner vs Taylor would be nice right about now. Just something competitive, doesnt have to be the biggest stars out there. There's so many possible matchups out there for everybody to just be looking forward to like 4 or 5 marquee fights. Promoters and managers need to get on their game.

But yeah we just gotta wait and see I guess.
