How to deal with this Ebay transaction?

Sneakerhead guys, looking for some advice on an ebay sell. I recently sold a pair of black/cement/red AJ IV's on ebay. The guy asked me several times if the shoes were real and I guaranteed him they were. I have sold many pairs of Jordans on ebay, especially when I sold off my collection, and have 100% feedback. I sent him a ton of pictures of the shoes. After about 10 days after the auction ended, he finally sent payment. He received the shoes earlier this week and he gave me positive feedback already. Today he emails me saying that he wore the shoes and when he was wiping them down, the white on the bottom of the soles was coming off and that the shoes are fake and he wants his money back. If I remember correctly I ordered them from Nike.com as a guest. I cannot find my receipt or email from the order to prove to him that they are real. I have a feeling if I refund his money that he is not going to send the shoes back to me or that they will be messed up if I do get them.

Looking for advice on how to handle this situation.

You're basically screwed

You'll either get a beat pair..or he will keep your pair and send you a fake pair.

I had this happen once..after I sent the shoes out to an NT'er I found out he was a scammer..luckily he hadn't picked them up yet and I was able to call the post office and have them send them back to me.

Selling shoes online is not worth the hassle.
Most of the time your dealing with a scammer or a high school kid

Your first mistake and red flag warning should have been that he waited 10 days to send the payment, or was that agreed upon at the time the auction ended? Ultimately, he will probably file a claim with paypal and unless you can prove without a shadow of a doubt that they are authentic (even that sometimes still means nothing), they will most likely side with the buyer. Sucks, but that's just the way it is.

Tell him to file a claim with eBay or Paypal to return it. DO NOT refund him any money. Just tell him to file a claim if he wants to return it and go from there.

If he sends you back a box of rocks, contact paypal/eBay, and follow their steps on how to file a police report.

Why in the world did you let him wait 10 days to pay? Seems like he had problems coming up with the money, and once he received them had second thoughts.

I would call his bluff and say you have the receipt proving they're real. See if he actually files a claim.

How can you lose an email though? You can't just use the search feature in your inbox? Also tell him to file a claim

I would tell the buyer to go kick rocks with the dumb scam. Buyer messed up leaving positive feedback. Plus you should be able to contact Nike directly and get a copy of the invoice with your billing information.

I've been selling shoes, new and used, on ebay since 2001.

I'd get in touch with ebay immediately and tell them that you feel like you are being scammed. Tell them exactly what you posted. Ebay customer service is up on this sneaker nonsense.

Ask ebay CS for some guidance before getting back in communication with the buyer.

Tell him to ship the shoes back with tracking and take pictures of them before putting them in the box.

Once you receive shoes verify they are the ones you sold him, if so see if they are indeed fake. If not offer him a partial refund for wearing them. If they are fake give him a full refund.

So I pulled my credit card statement that shows the transaction on 11/23/12. Sent it over to him. He sent me pics back of what he was talking about. It is the white paint around the air bubble that is flaking off. It looks like he is taking a wash rag and wiping them off and not sure if he is scrubbing hard, or if its the fact they are over 3 years old and been sitting in a box, but I do see that there is a small part where the white paint has flaked off. And that is if the pics he is sending me is of the same pair I sent him.

Sounds like the buyer either has buyers remorse or is just trying to get over.

It's a hassle but your best off just having him ship the shoes back and as long as they're in the exact same condition and are the exact same shoes, just taking the L and refunding him and just take out what you paid me initially to ship the shoes from the refund. Better to do that then risk getting screwed over by a problematic buyer.

Wait what?

Paint chipping?

That's to expected with 4s
perfectly normal

Well it looks like this guy is going to try to get one over on me. I have shown him the pics from above with the flaking. I have shown him the CC statement with the transaction. I even offered to refund him back $40 for the flaking and let him keep the shoes. I even pointed up they were for sale on here and if they were fake the listing would have been pulled. His reply back was "
I'm not a fake dude I don't do fake nothing I need an want my money the same way it was sent to you with know question. .."

I told him I have been very accommodating with him, letting him pay so late for the shoes, showed him the back up that they are real and even trying to give him some money back. I told him if he feels the need to file a case with ebay then that is the next step.

I have a feeling I am still going to be out the money and the shoes.

Were the shoes clean when you sent it to him? DS? why was he scrubbing them down? Paint chipping doesn't mean they are fake, so it sounds like he's definitely trying to screw you over.

If he sends shoes back check the label inside of the shoe to confirm they are the same pair you sent him. If not then start contacting Ebay and Paypal after.

Tell him to file a claim. Or better yet you contact eBay preemptively. I've sold many 3s and 4s on eBay over the years and I always mention paint chipping or the potential of paint chipping in the listing.

I have contacted ebay. I did the "report buyer" option and basically reported him under the guise of the abuse of the money back guarantee. He has filed a refund request through ebay. I have until the 14th to responsd before ebay gets involved.

you might have to chalk the l. ebay 100% sides with buyers. recently got burned selling a galaxy phone+mophie. dude didnt return the mophie but since theres tracking that he sent "something" back to me, he auto-refunded him.

calling and telling pp/ebay did nothing but waste time :/ good luck!

Meet ups for J's and cash...not a chance. Especially in the Houston area. I like being alive.

Thats why you do the transaction in a safe place like a bank or something.

Or you could just invest in a firearm. I mean, it's Texas, everyone packing.

bottom line dont use ebay or paypal ever

also this shoe is notorious for flaking

same thing also happens on the 2012 pair
