Current state you need to stack that armor up. But in doing so, that means you'll need to recalibrate it for more armor, which wouldn't be recommended given the upcoming 1.6.
Also, I say either go with a specific gear-set (green) build or go with all high-ends. Your gear-set pieces seem a bit random at the moment. Also, use your Performance Mod slots!

another thing why is it that my book bag will have mod slots on the left and right but when i try to equip things on the right side it says i have no mods available when my inventory has multiple mods available?

There's performance mods and gear mods
Gear mods go on the left side. They will be stamina firearms or electronics. They will also have a 2nd Stat like armor, health, crit chance etc
Performance mods relate to skills. They can be pulse duration, healing station speed etc. These go on the right side
You see no kids available because you don't have any mods for that specific area

You can still recalibrate. But keep in mind what gear set you wanna use. Try and gather all the pieces and don't recalibrate those

I know i liked whichever gearset that was giving me like 1000+ ammo per gun other than that idk what im doing. i am a lost puppy in these E-streets

Hmm predator may interest you? You can put bleed on people. It drops a lot too
Or an all gold build. These are fun and real flexible

Now in terms of armor. It can no longer be rolled on our gear in 1.6. So you're gonna have to get gear with high base armor. Look at this pic below. You can see what the highest base armor is for each piece
Then whenever something drops just compare to how close it is to the highest possible roll. Look at the smaller numbers. It's in white, right next to the orange (orange number is the armor you can roll so ignore that). For example the highest base armor on your chest can be 2003

I think it was after the 1.5 patch release, one of the safe houses was selling them with a decent roll. I've gotten a few since then, but i just use it as a secondary and still use my godly G36.

They sold a decent one at the Meatlocker a while back, but I've gotten a few as rewards and drops since then. I wanna use it but it just sucks.
Can't wait to try the 1.6 buff though... shame we won't be able to use it with AlphaBridge as it'll be come an Exotic.

Get a purple famas. But keep it on the down low. Those won't be exotics
