in the end its a popularity contest and people paying for these awards

What other money are they supposed to take if they're an actor striving to be great?

that's what i'm saying. hollywood and the entertainment been run by powerful white males. it's nothing new, people been saying that.
i applaud jada for saying this and bringing this up, but things rarely change in hollywood. there will always be lack of diversity, females will not get equal pay, etc

What films are Creed and SOC replacing in your opinion?

Note: I've seen them all.
I've seen all the films as well. But to answer your question , none. The Best Picture category was expanded to 10 films in 2009. This year only 8 films were nominated. So what happened to the last 2 spots??

Lets be honest. Studio execs would rather have "Oscar winning/nominated" directors and actors before someone who has only won/been nominated for a Soultrain and BET award. They put it in the same category as Nickelodeon Kid's Choice award and MTV Movie awards -- Something catered to that channel's/network's viewers, not the global industry.

Creed isn't a best picture caliber film. Very good movie, but not in the same discussion as Spotlight or The Revenant.

Straight Out of Compton best picture?

Most will agree.

You'd be surprised how much of a difference winning a Grammy or an Oscar can make in an artists career. It's a bargaining chip and I'm sure it has a big impact on your earning power.
this statement makes me think about three 6 mafia.. its hard out here for a pimp..lol

change will only be made if people take action to make change.. you cant get people who are unforgiving to be forgiving..

Since movies are subjective , I'm going to use to criteria of critics scores as means to prove my argument.

The Reverent which sits at an aggregate score of 82% approval with critics , it was nominated for best picture, best lead actor , best supporting actor , best cinematography , best director , etc.........

As you can see Straight Outta Compton has an aggregate score of 88% approval with critics. The only nomination is got was for best original screen play.......WTF!!!!!

And lastly Creed sits at a whopping 94% approval with critics. And only got a best supporting actor nod for Sly. Despite the massive critical acclaim it received.

So I ask you , why was neither movie nominated again??

Either you've never seen the Oscars or you don't know much about the Academy. Or both.

RT is irrelevant as it pertains to these awards.

I know exactly how the Oscars voting system works. That's why it flawed! I've watched the Oscars for a long while. While you think RT is irrelevant to the process , what other measuring criteria can you assess the nominations on? It's already a stated fact that many of the Oscar voters don't even watch all the films in contention. So who's to say that The Reverent is a better film than SOC or Creed? Because some 60+ year old 92% white voters said so? While you dismiss RT , I value it. Otherwise , there's no criteria for judging movies.

The dominate male perspective is ever present due tomthe fact that people can only see a woman defending her husband when her point is that people ofncolor didnt gwt nominated

I value RT as well, to a certain extent. You never know who is reviewing these films and some of them are very flawed and/or biased. Creed has a higher rating than the OG Rocky. Lol.

I rock with Leonard Maltin as I feel like he sees movies similar to myself.

Of course the voting system is flawed. Leo has never one and Oscar, yet movies like Crash and Million Dollar Baby won best picture

Hell no.

Just because they put somebody on stage to entertain them does not mean they respect or recognize their work. Those are 2 totally different things. If they really did recognize them they would get nominations.
So when Sam L or Ricky Gervais hosts a ceremony, it's not due to him being a familiar, successful artist, it's something else? Got it.
