Do you guys think Kevin Hart is as big of a star as Eddie Murphy was in the 80's?

This question is for the older dudes on the board who are old enough to remember how big Eddie Murphy was in the 80's.

I feel like it's impossible to gague due to the nuances of today's generation.

Lil Kev the Bastard has 29 million Instagramb followers. If Instagramb existed in the 80s, how many followers would Murphy have?

Nah.

I agree it's hard to gauge. Kev has a lot of avenues for exposure Eddie didn't have back then.

Bingo. Well said.

Popularity is different between the eras

I'm going to say he is just as big, with the possibility to be bigger than Eddie Murphy.

Is he as talented as Eddie? HELL NO.

No, just....No...

**** no bruh...

Kevin Hart is overrated, I'm sorry. I've seen "Grown Little Man", "Laugh At My Pain" & "Let Me Explain" as well as a lot of his movies.

He doesn't even begin to touch the likes of Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock, prime pre-Industry blackball Chapelle, Bernie Mac, George Carlin, Louis CK etc etc etc.

Hell, I don't think he can **** with Aziz Ansari to be real.

its not a question of talent, but a question of star-power.

his star-power is up there. homie A-list now.

Exactly. OP asked if he was as big a star as Murphy, not if his comedy specials were better

It feels like Hart is in like 4 movies a year at this point. Not that I'm paying attention to them

While kev has been putting out alot of movies, and had some number 1 opening weekends, He hasn't had hit anywhere close to Eddie yet.

I actually like Kevin Hart alot, but numbers don't lie. Beverly hills Cop 1 alone made close to 600,000,000 worldwide . Coming to America made 250,000,000. Kevin leading a film has never made anything close to that.

While social media is a factor, what does that do for ticket sales? Also lets be really honest, in the 80s name me one comedian bigger than Eddie? Not better, bigger? Eddie was a pop icon on the level of Arnold, Michael Jackson and Prince.

Kevin isn't even the biggest right now, fact is people ain't turning out to see his movies the way they going to see Adam Sandler still. Kevin will get there but he ain't there yet.
