Collecting advice: Are my tastes "maturing" past sneakers/bball shoes?

I think the mentality is just the change/reflection of your lifestyle. I'm in the same boat as you. I've bought a ton of sneakers and I work in the private sector. Straight business casual with the option of casual Friday's. But even then, I'm particular with my sneakers that I'd wear to work.

In the end, I think it comes down to what you want to. I think I'll always be a sneaker guy, even if I can only wear a pair one or twice on the weekend.

My sentiments exactly. I rarely wear sneakers besides weekends and at the gym. Its definitely slowed down for me but I'll always be a sneaker guy

Yes, your tastes are maturing. I went through the same phase and am more interested in runners and other types of casual shoes as opposed to basketball shoes now. A lot of us come to a point where we realize it's not realistic and practical to be wearing high-top retros of 80s and 90s basketball shoes on a daily basis and would rather prefer more comfortable and subtle sneakers, especially as we grow older.

I'd sell what you don't wear or don't plan on wearing. Your idea of selling around 50% of your collection seems like a good goal.

Starting to feel this way myself but Im a few years younger. All those bright colored kicks from a few years ago (SB 8, ASG Lebrons, KDs, etc) get no play in my rotation as it is hard to coordinate an outfit w em.

When I have time I'll put em up for sale, but part of me wants to hold on to em. The struggle

I barely even buy J's anymore except for my grails (3's, and some 11's) and have sold my other ones.

I've bought a couple of penny's here and there but i've been moving towards running shoes now.

they're just more comfy and when you're trying to run after a toddler, it helps! not too bulky either, and you can wear them with khaki shorts (no cargos) with a polo shirt and still look like a 'grown up'

i dont collect anymore probably have about 30 kicks and im very much part of corporate life so i cant wear them. But i never see myself wearing wack kicks like New balance or **** like that.

Going through the same myself. At this point in my life ( turned 30 last month ) sneakers are become less and less of a priority. That's not to say that I will stop buying sneaker completely. But I find myself trying to make smarter purchases now. For instance, I no longer buy kicks at full price anymore. Just isn't worth it to me to spend extra money to have them when they first come out, as opposed to waiting a couple months to a year when they go on deep discount.

And I also find myself only wanting retro 90's b-ball sneakers. Not a fan of any of these new age sneakers ( save for the Chuck Posites) . Most of what I want always ends up in the outlets for significantly cheaper. But I will say that I will never stop wearing sneakers. I imagine I will wear retro nikes until the day I die.

I haven't been a "sneaker collector" for almost a decade now. It's nice to be able to wear all of my XI's to actually play bball

This happen to me around the age 25.

Fixing up my house + Dope vacations > Kicks

AM90 Infra

3x Roshe Runs

Jordan 3 True Blue

Jordan XII Taxi Low

Nike x J. Crew Killshot 2

That's my entire collection. Like you OP, I'm not really into sneakers anymore. If I splurge on clothing, I'd rather just buy a nice jacket or sunnys.

Is this all happening due to age and my tastes are "maturing"? At this point, I feel like I'd rather have 30 pairs that will get rotated in at least once per month vs. 70+ pairs that might not see the sun for 90-120 days. NT let me know your thoughts. Curious to hear some feedback from some of the veteran collectors but def open to hearing from any and all. #ihateshoes

It very well could be. When I was around your age I ended up unloading over 300 pairs in my collection. Unlike you; I don't have the luxury of dressing casual to work. Since I only wear sneakers on the weekend I have narrowed down what I wear. Interesting enough my taste has changed as I have gown older, it's gotta be normal for most guys as they age.

I feel you OP, I barely wear my grails or unds shoes I've purchased the past 2 years but I look at collecting shoes like collecting art...to me its art and it kind of explains why I don't wear some of my shoes (hate to see scratches or creases on certain shoes) but really once I unds them, they become part of the rotation for a few months and I'll go back to my flyknit racers ,prestos, or footscapes.
