VALENTINES DAY 2K16: IDEAS, TIPS, RECOMMENDATIONS

When will people wise up and stop participating in this nonsense holiday.
Because it's about love?
It's about wasting money. No one who's in a committed relationship needs a designated day to prove it.
Having a romantic weekend with the person you love is now a bad thing?
When a specific window of time comes with an insane markup on everything you want to do then yes. Nothing about Valentines day warrants the markup but people just accept it anyways.

What if you moneyball Valentine's Day and it costs the same as any other date night? Should you still boycott it?

What is the markup?

Food at a restaurant costs exactly the same

Some spots will put out a prefix menu for the night and leave you no choice but to order from it. Prices may be a bit higher because of that but I wouldn't think a crazy increase.

Spot I'm going to has a prefix menu but it's not mandatory. 3 course meal, glass of champagne for $150 a couple. Not doing it since A) you need to at least be 4 people to do it and B) we never eat 3 courses so it's pointless

You can also just go to a different spot then.

Or cook your girl a meal.

It's narrow minded to think there is just ONE way to celebrate the day.

Dude is complaining just to complain

And prefix menus are usually cheaper than ordering the same items direct from the menu IF you will in fact eat and enjoy everything on the prefix. Restaurants just do those because the food is easier to prepare for large crowds as opposed to random orders.

Let's be real, Valentine's day is as much for show as it is about "love". Your girl wants to flaunt her flowers and chocolate for her friends/family etc. on social media.

The girl wouldn't floss if you cooked her an ill meal?

Again, narrow minded.

Not every female is about that ******** either.

So those old *** granny couples that I see at restaurants on VDay are doing it for the gram?

So tell me what would happen with your significant other if you decide not to partake in Valentine's festivities this year?

You know what we're doing for "Valentine's festivities"?

Dinner and a movie.

You know what we did last weekend?

Dinner and a movie.

How you got from the discussion we were having, about "markup" etc. to not partaking is beyond me.

As is what I'm trying to convey. You can celebrate it your OWN way.

But you talking about flossing on social media etc. So this might be more about the woman you're with than the day itself........

Markup? Food, chocolates, flowers, etc all cost the same. I know because I buy that stuff about once a month. The February bill is exactly the same as the March/April/etc bill.

Some restaurants have a special menu, SEVERAL others do not.

Well nah they aren't. But let's be real, most women out there look at VDay as another day to be catered, and if they don't get that attention, they think you don't care about them :rolleyes .

I said it a few days ago in this thread, I'll probably do a dinner at this spot my girl has been wanting to try and that's about it. Fortunately she think's the idea behind VDay marketing is corny, but I know a dinner is the least I can do.

Fam, I'm single.

That's great you're celebrating in "your own way", more power to you. Only thing I'm getting at is the presumed importance of outward appearances; let's not act like its outlandish that women compete amongst each other - so the decision to not celebrate may appear as "non-caring", whether it's to your s/o or to the ignorance of others.

Again, more power to you that you and your s/o are capable of transcending those corny notions though.

When u got a girl it's just a reason to be out and celebrate with your lady. Dinner on me and whatever after is on her, and we got this weird tradition where we take our son out earlier in the day.

Dudes celebrate every other BS holiday but VDay is stupid

Y'all don't buy gifts for Xmas? No feast on Thanksgiving? You don't celebrate your mom on Mother's Day even if she a great mom all year round? No father's day?

Bitter Bettys in here lol

That hasn't been my experience personally. More power to you and those who enjoy it in their own way.

Apologies for being argumentative.

The fact that you think those are BS holidays or that Valentines Day is comparable to them is ridiculous. Those are four huge family togetherness holidays.

But to each his own

Nah the fact that people need Thanksgiving and Christmas to bring their families together is ridiculous, it should be done all year around.

Theres days off for those days that allow people to do so. Thanksgiving is basically a four day weekend for a lot of people and depending on what day it falls on the same goes for Christmas.

Scheduling conflicts don't allow for what you said in a lot of cases

If you say so, my grandma been having Sunday dinner atleast 2x a month since I was a kid. Don't need Thanksgiving or Christmas to fit time in for family, that's sad.

I can celebrate the day for my mom and dad even though I appreciate them year round but all a sudden celebrating the day for the person you love is a gimmick? Dudes are just negative nancys it's not that serious.

Maybe it's different for me since my lady is my family -ye shrug

I did that with my parents and brothers every Sunday. Just saying not everyone can make it every time. Distance is a factor
