Thought there was a thread. Anyway it's showing now, started at 8pm. I'm sure it'll be up for re-watch on the webs

Coming off The Big Short it's interesting watching this retelling and how Madoff did it.

EDIT

THE WIZARD OF LIES

Interesting watch so far.

Goes to show you how many people have no clue about things happening in finance, even those in the industry.

Yeah, it's crazy from this, The Big Short, Wolf of Wall Street, Too Big To Fail time and time again I'm seeing rampant incompetence being a main factor when it comes to hundreds of millions to billions being moved around or stolen.

It's insane.

It's a big sick joke

Truly is, and some people have the audacity to place the blame on the lower and middle classes.

Check out Margin Call as well, similar to the movies you posted but great nonetheless.

I remember seeing a promo for that.

Also recently saw the movie trailer called Money Monster coming out soon which is similar but a lower class does something drastic about it.

Everyone had a hand in the 2008 crisis.

Margin Call was a great movie. Best conversation:

Exactly, I don't buy this 'no one knew' nonsense. The greed and rampant fraud was well documented. No one goes to jail, just pay a fine which is nothing but the cost of doing business. Plus the government bails them out. It's robbery.

Madoff just messed up by stealing from rich people. If it was a bunch of lower working/middle class he'll just pay a fine.

I meant everyone:

- banks creating and trading complex instruments (derivatives, CDO, CDS)

- sketchy lenders such as Countrywide Financial

- regular folks borrowing what they can't pay back / living beyond their means

- ratings agencies who handed out BS ratings

It's crazy to think how long madoff got away with before he got caught. I hope this abc version doesn't suck

Had me almost rooting for dude.

He got what he wanted with the never being pitied thing. Just ****** up he had to screw over fam as well but he was never an actual trader just straight up scamming

Looks good, but it's amazing how trendy Hollywood can be. "Financial disaster films with narratives are hot right now". Still after seeing all this morons will still blame poor people for messing up the economy.

I"m more surprised they didn't do a feature length film much earlier but yeah I guess it's cuz financial disaster movies are kinda in even though it's just an art imitating life thing.
mr holland did a great job portraying madoff
He was great.

Bernie :pimp: anyone that puts their money into get rich quick type schemes deserve to take L's
