More drivers falling behind on their car payments

The writing's been on the wall for a while now. There was an article a while ago that Milleniels are buying more luxury cars while also carrying increased amounts of student and consumer debt. At some point, our generation will learn one way or another. Unfortunately for now we aren't learning that the best way to build wealth and financial security is to be debt free and live within your means.

While we (millennials) are definitely strapped with more student debt than our parents, we have way more resources to self-teach money management. The bottom line is that a small percentage of people care about/ budget their finances for the future, and the majority of people live month to month - being gen x or millennial has no direct effect on this.

I've been telling my friend that makes roughly $80k per year to buy Nike stock each month with some of his extra cash (up 30% last year) instead he bought a Lexus RC350. Dope car, but its gonna cost him $700 a month for SIX YEARS. People will be people.

I see people in my area driving a new Escalade or Suburban thinking how could they possibly afford it.

That's what he gets for telling you how much he makes. People just can't keep stuff to themselves.

You make it seem like dude was announcing it as he walked down the street.

Perhaps he was asked.

So because he was asked he must share? Ask me how much I make right now.

When people who have friends are asked questions by said friends, they usually answer.

Given your purview of the world, I can understand how that may seem foreign to you.

You're telling me you can ask all your friends how much they make and they will all tell you?

A car is the corniest thing to stunt with cause damn near anybody can get into a luxury car. If you're buying the car for yourself than do you. If you're buying it to stunt 1) nobody cares and 2) it's not that hard to get one.

With that being said...that new S Class coupe. Sexiest thing I've seen in a while. Sheesh.

Not anyone can go into a dealership and just lease an S-Class though. They still do credit checks and if you have bad credit you're still going to have put down a large down payment and pay $2k or more monthly.

Unless you go to one of those hood dealerships selling what looks like a brand new car but it's actually salvaged.

I am 100% confident that my friends would tell me if I cared to ask. The people I associate with? Most likely not, but that topic would probably never come up with an associate in the first place.

If he can swing it without any issues, why not?

I have had the same friends since the fourth grade. The same friends. I wouldn't tell them.

Definitely not getting into finances with friends, unless who's picking up the tab.

i dont have debt

debt is the major key, it prob sound stupid but real life ppl have judged me because way i dress or im always doing something etc, own place, new car blah blah

im like yo i just budget and i dont have debt, i also sell clothes and sneakers for most of my fun on the side

now its totally different im not gonna discuss how much i have but im gonna keep my price range under 50k

sounds silly but im not worried about retirement or savings thats fine, everyone situation is different

Yep, none of us know how much the other makes. You can research it online, but that is dong to much IMO

Whats the big deal of your friends knowing how much you make?  Is it that you think you make less and are embarrassed or you make more and worried they'll ask you for a loan?

Should've never been asked.
That's one of those questions you just shouldn't ask people. It's rude.

The hell are you guys talking about? My best friend of 10 years TOLD ME his salary. And I TOLD HIM he's an idiot for using most of his disposable income on a whip. I'm getting too old for NT, the glory days of adults posting in these threads are long gone.
