Kanye West $53 Million in Debt ... "Mark Zuckerberg HELP !!

I'm not questioning you, but I would love to hear your opinion...

Right now, is Kanye's fashion influence that much greater than Drake's?

I could see it back in the day when Kanye was doing **** a bit differently w/ the polos and what not...but now...???

ABSOLUTELY UNEQUIVOCALLY YES

People love drake's music, he's extremely popular... but i've never seen someone mimick drake's style... there's complete websites full of kids who will switch there entire style based on what Kanye wears.

Hell walk into a Zara/ H&M (two billion dollar companies that cater to younger fashion) the entire store is populated with camo prints, holes in EVERYTHING, Balmain styled jeans, Biker Jackets, Earth Tone Flight jackets, Long T-shirts... Basically the entire mens section is Directly influenced by whatever trend Kanye was heavy into over the past 6 months.

so yea i would say he's pretty influential. and before someone even decides to chime in with a they were wearing so & so in the 90's... tell me why these kind of stores weren't feverishly promoting this aesthetic prior to Ye rockin these styles heavily.

Whether you like Kanye or not, there's no denying that he has incredible influence on fashion.

Much more than any other artist

Weren't his rants about wanting people to work with him and them not doing so? Not investing in his "vision".

Is that happening now? This thread seems to be about him losing a good chunk of money he's invested in his own clothes. And he's still looking for investors.

I'm not sure what you mean by major impact on the fashion world. Did you mean the Yeezy line? Or moreso him helping popularize Givenchy/Balmain etc. a few years back?

I think the only thing that's "safe to say" is that his limited edition Adidas sneakers sold out. Because that's a fact. And that was a good look for the brand.

By the same token, Rihanna boosted Puma's 4th Q earnings. I'm sure Kylie will also help. But I wouldn't call that a major impact on the sneaker world.

At the time of those rants the focus was primarily on these things

- Nike Wouldn't allow him full creative control or any royalties whatsoever, what happened later Adidas gave him full control and royalties for the sneakers
- He couldn't get enough funding to release a clothing line using fabrics equivalent to other high end lines, what happened later Adidas provided him with the materials and funding to create the line which is now in it's third season.
- High end designers, photographers, editors etc etc in the fashion world refused to work with him Due to his status as a celebrity, what happened later He was able to create relationships and collab with those same designers, the photographers that usually reserved their services for a certain demographic is now working with him on projects, same editors who told him he should quit fashion are now in the same row sitting front row next to dudes like 2 chainz
- hiphop culture or entertainers in general not being allowed to create or give input on materials, just being used to endorse product. Since he's dropped his adidas line many "entertainers" are being allowed to do capsules and in some cases (RIHANNA) full clothing lines complete with fashion week shows.
- He went from having a bare publicized fashion show a few years ago, to being one of the most covered shows in all of NYFW & presenting a collection in front of 20'000 plus people at MSG
- Adidas was the most searched sneaker brand on social media this year.

So If getting a billion dollar company to back you on some of your products, going from receiving nothing to earning royalties, Creating a complete fashion line 3 seasons deep, helping to change the perception on what an artists contribution can be to fashion, and showing that a black man can hold his own in the fashion world and generate a serious following and buzz categorizes as not having an impact. then yea he benefited in no way off of those rants.

Agreed on the creative control and royalties from Nike, but you know damn well those rants were not about having a brand like Adidas work with him

And like someone said, Adidas needed him more than Nike did. So they kind of HAD to give him more than Nike did. Nike giving him royalties would have been foolish.

Those rants were about the high end fashion houses he wanted to work with shunning him.

Would this thread exist if he received the funding you claim he did? It's easy to have control of things you're funding yourself.

Would stories like this exist?

Kanye’s goals are very much apparent – dominate the fashion, music and design worlds, but we’re also aware that he’s been spending a lot of his own money to reach these mountaintops with his followers in tow.

Kanye “has been reaching out to heavyweights in the fashion business to back his Yeezy clothing line to the tune of $100 million (USD).” This includes “LVMH chairman and CEO Bernard Arnault, Richemont and Chris Burch, who helped launch Tory Burch’s fashion line and later started C. Wonder.”

He's falling deeper into debt because the clothing lines, regardless of how many seasons in he is or where he does the showcase, doesn't seem to be a success. It's not hard to rent out the Garden on a weekday afternoon if you have the $$$

Fashion week is as much about entertainment now as it is fashion the way All Star Weekend is as much about entertainment as it is basketball. So of course he gets coverage and people want to be seen at a show that's getting major coverage. Does that have anything to do with design? Or sales?

And social media searches do not = sales. Again, the sneakers moved and he created a good buzz for the brand. But look at the thread you're in. He's losing money on these ventures.

If you look at dudes like Virgil or Jerry Lorenzo, those dudes are finding ways to succeed with theirs. THOSE are the guys you invest in if you're a smart company. Those are the guys REALLY doing some of the things you're talking about (along with Maxwell Osborne and others).

They just do it quietly.

Public School has an interesting story. They used to do hypebeast-y streetwear roughly 10 years ago, changed their image to black/white minimalist streetwear about 5 years ago, and then got CFDA recognition/hype.

Their first few collections were cool, but the same can't be said of their latest stuff.

So is Osborne killing it? Somewhat, but he's one of the few black designers who's pretty well known in the industry.

Public School is a successful clothing brand.

Success is always "hot" to me.

There was a comment made about black men holding their own in the fashion world so I figured I'd mention a few doing quite well for themselves.

I do, but I hardly pay attention to any fashion trends kanye is responsible for.

if you want to guarantee Chinese factory will start making a certain model of fake shoe or clothing. have Kanye west wear it a couple times. and instantly fakes will flood the market.

these replica makers aren't multi national corporations so I have to assume they are risk averse and so there fore

I have to assume they do that because they know based of Kanye alone it will move units.

im not some fashion industry expert but it seems like pretty easy slightly left of center way to measure demand.

Drake has fashion influence?

ain't nobody wearing the hotline bling turtle-neck with timbs B

He doesn't. But that kind of supports what some people have been saying.

If you slap a limited tag on it and have the right marketing vehicle, it's gonna move regardless.

Like these OVO Jordans. And they basic as ****.

again...

make those Yeezy Boosts as available Roshes and nobody wants them anymore because that crowd doesn't feel exclusive anymore

Yes I do

Resellers vanish, the people resellers make thousands off of disappear because they don't want what isn't limited and special to them and a select group

you literally don't know that, you imagine that, but you don't actually have evidence that would happen or to what degree that it would happen.

this is also ignoring the halo effect that association with people like kanye would have on the rest of your line of sneakers.

I mean kanye wore some GR adidas ultra boosts and they started selling out.

Stussy doesn't sell at Pacsun and you act as if Stussy isn't the most iconic street wear label of all time
