To Summarize, this 25 year old chick Talia Jane works at Yelp's SF office in support and gets paid $12.25/hr which has her bi weekly checks come out to around $733 and she's got an apartment outside of SF that she can take bart to work for $1200 a month in rent which is 80% of her income which leaves her $300 a month to cover everything else like phone bill, utilities etc.  Said she hasn't bought any groceries at all and eating at work and living off a 10 pound bag of rice outside of work.  Says all the other low level employees like her have to live at home, get other jobs etc. to make ends meet.  Claims CVS employees are probably making more than Yelp employees.  Got fired a couple hours writing this letter to the CEO.

Get a roomate...don't work in SF.

$12 an hour sucks, but there are things she could have done on her end to not be in this situation.

Heard some of those San Fran area tech companies and all that. But about $8/hour with $1200 rent in San Fran? Nope. I fully understand why she moved there tho. I bet there's a lot of others just like her out here.

So why doesn't she just find another job?! Or move in with her parents? Or find a place with cheaper rent.

Real talk, I couldn't even comprehend doing something like this. That Corporate America fearful walking on eggshells culture is real. I know my CEO's email address since he sends message blasts to the whole (gigantic) company...I could even get the ***** on Microsoft Link IM just by typing in his name and our whole organization, based in like 30 states, is connected on Outlook.....

I know if I sent that ***** some **** like that our VP would get yelled at, our director would get yelled at, our manager would get yelled at, my direct supervisor will get yelled at, our whole department maybe would get shut down/yelled at let alone me personally being fired. Not gonna say which mega corporation I work for but that's a jux for real if I publicize that story

$1200 for rent? Pretty sure she can find a roommate or get a cheap basement to rent for $6-700/m

You can't survive on $12/hr if you live by yourself in SF. That's why you got them condos with four dudes packed into it with little to no privacy

know ppl that worked for yelp in sales. worst job ever. dont know what she was doing, i assume customer service.
all they do is hire a bunch of newly grads and burn thru them

everybody that i met that moved out here are basically sharing apts and paying high rents just to live in the bay area. i couldnt do that, living like i was still in a dorm :x

I didnt read the email. Why was she fired? Just cause she complained about not getting paid enough? Is it even legal for a company to do that?

This mentality is terrible and unfortunately, has become representative of the millennial generation.

This letter spits in the face of people who had to work hard to rise up the ranks.

Word she got was she deserved man.

Watch she get a better job elsewhere cause of this though

she has a gofund me now, so she's honestly probably going to make a bunch of money off this publicity
