Talia Jane fired from yelp for writing CEO of low pay Vol # Struggles of Low paid tech company emplo

Another thing that is wrong with the whole "participation trophy" meme is that the millennials who were the most likely to receive participation trophies and be placed in gifted and talented classes and have wealthy and highly involved parents and enjoyed lavish birthday parties as kids are the ones who are doing the best as adults. White, upper middle class and upper class kids had the easiest childhoods and are now those rare millennials who have good jobs and home ownership.

The working class whites, the Latinos and black millennials who were much less likely to receive participation trophies, the ones who did work during high school and college, those whose childhoods and college years were much more gritty, they are the ones with the most debt, the bleakest career prospects and the smallest chance of ever owning a home.

It is, as it always has been, about who has the most money and social capital and not who had the roughest upbringing.
none of this has anything to do with the girl in the article though. She wants to live the high end big city lifestyle while only being qualified for a minimum wage job. $12 per hour? Get a second job, live in the East Bay, move back home and try to get more qualifications, etc. Don't live in a damn $1200 room and buy expensive food and drinks  It took me 20 seconds to find rooms $400-500 cheaper on Craigslist, and this girl is complaining about not being able to eat because of high rent.

He is probably made the comment because people mentioned the perceived laziness of millennials in the thread too

This chick's a lazy bum *** clown and the fact that she's asking for free hand outs through her donation pages is disgusting. She's a more sophisticated pan handler.

He sounds like a beta boy

how so? care to elaborate on how you came to your conclusion?
First off there is no defending a letter like that, she is an entitled idiot for writing it and deserves to get fired.

Secondly making a video about his life's problems just screams beta boy

Taking everything she said as the truth just for the sake of caping. If she really was living off a bag of rice then she wouldn't be having money problems.

Life is hard, you make a mistake and you have to live with it. This whole it's okay, you're so brave for what you did mentality is the very same participation trophy mindset that got her here in the first place.

yelp and her were a great match. company isnt that great and she was a lazy employee, go figure

Read the email, don't think it was enough to fire her. CEO should've addressed the issue in a different way imo.

She lost me after someone posted those Instagram pictures. It's one thing to be underpaid, living in a high-cost city, and struggling to make ends meet. But it's another thing to be living past your means. I'm not sure why she was let go though. What grounds did they base the termination?

She's no different than the thousands of people moving to NYC hoping to make it big in the city, only to be held back my succumbing to the glamour. A wise man once said, "The dream is free, but the hustle is sold separately." It's concerning more and more millennials are experiencing the same situation, but feel entitled to a life of comfort because they've "accomplished" basic criteria of whats required to be an adult.

I credit her for getting her story out there though. This publicity will serve her well.

I don't see anything in her instagram that proves she's not struggling.  People's social media habits are that they post the good things in their lives, not the bad things

The entitlement could have been imposed on them by their parents. I'm not talking about the spoiled kids who don't know how to function in life either. It may be an immigrant thing or just something attributed to my peers, but our parents were always on the train of thought that we should focus on school and that our education will get us to an enjoyable life later. You're sold on this until you graduate and realize you may struggle getting a job; and if you do it may not allow you to afford the "enjoyable life" you dreamed of. Granted our parents wanted us to be doctors and engineers to avoid that problem, but that was never given as a reason.

But in this particular case, I think this chick was never given sound financial lessons about living within her means in addition to thinking she'll be an Instagram celeb working at Yelp.

I know ppl are despising her for these views but she really is just keeping it real.

I know there's this go to stereotype about millennials being lazy and wanting something for nothing but I think that's due to the era we're in. They're growing up thinking being famous is a career. There's a laundry list of ppl famous for nothing. Those famous ppl are becoming rich for nothing. Those same rich famous for nothing ppl would then have you believe what they do to stay rich is hard work (making appearances in clubs and what not).

I'm not surprised at all at the ppl I come across that want that easy come up. It's more of a possibility in their eyes in the world we're in today.

Unfortunately most ppl don't realize some ppl gotta be a janitor.

I don't care what anyone says, a full time position at $12.50/hr is less than $20K annually after taxes. She can not drink all the Kambucha in the world, that's still not gonna be enough to live on anywhere in the Bay Area.

Yall grilling her for living beyond her means and need to be on her about her employment situation.

Yelp recruits so aggressively, know a handful of people some with degrees in pottery, who's first job out of school was with Yelp. They were still getting twice what ol girl was making.

Instead of drafting a letter *****ing at her boss she should have picked up the phone and asked HR about exit opportunities to sales.

I'm sorry but in 2016 if you're a grown person in the Bay Area, you must not have a single hustle firing neuron in your brain if you're stuck make $12/hr.
