From another forum but about people keeping it real at wrong time.
So I started my first day as a staff accountant at this corporate company. I've never been a staff accountant before nor have I worked in a corporate environment. I was really nervous about it and I wasn't even sure if I could stand being in a business outfit all day.

Anyway, I get there and after filling out the necessary paperwork, I'm left at my cubicle with nothing to do. My computer isn't hooked up since they couldn't find the power cord and they weren't even sure if they had done a background check on me. After filling out my background information, I was left at my cubicle again with no instructions whatsoever. I was told before that I was going to be in training but nothing happened.

So I just sat there at the desk for two and a half hours. I was on my phone practically the entire time and I was bored stupid. After two and a half hours I had had enough. So I went to my boss and told her that I don't think this is a good fit. I told her that they don't seem organized and told her that I wasn't doing anything. She told me that it's only the first day and that I'm in training. But I told her that I haven't done anything and I wasn't even getting trained. So I told her that I'm leaving and am going home.

And now I'm at home. I called a couple of my friends, my boyfriend, and my mom called me and they all think that I made a huge mistake and should go back and ask for my job back. So I called my boss back and she said "No. You're done." And that was it.

After getting told that I screwed up, that I ruined my future, that this is how the corporate world works, I'm feeling very depressed. It definitely hit me that I made a huge mistake. Why don't I just kill myself now and get it over with? I have no future anyway, right? Why does the corporate world work this way?! This is horrible! Maybe I'm not meant to be in a corporate environment. Maybe I'm just meant to make minimum wage and be stuck at some dead-end job.

I hate my life. Did I **** up my future that badly?!

TL;DR: I quit a corporate position after doing nothing but sitting for 2.5 hours. And now I'm paying for it, I guess.
couldn't handle 2 and a half hours of sitting at a desk...?

You can tell this is the first time they've ever even worked a job...

To be fair, this company seems poorly run, but why did ol' girl quit after 2.5 hours? She didn't even make it past lunch?

Solution: She could've introduced herself to the other team members, told them that her computer wasn't hooked up, and asked if she could shadow them (which shows drive and interest) or help out in any way.

This has to be the stupidest thing I've ever read.

I understand being fed up and quitting after several months, but quitting because during your first 3 hours your computer wasn't set up yet and they didn't get to your training as fast as you'd like them to? I would LOVE to sit at a desk with an unhooked computer and nothing to do

This is why people don't take my generation seriously :frown:

this and this.

she sounded spoil as ****

like people don't have work to do and her basic training was the top priority in her company

The real question though is did she come back and pick up her check for 2.5 hours of work? Seriously, why not make yourself useful, ask if anyone needs help with anything, like shredding paper or making copies, something, something.

And this Talia lady, I hope that those aren't real photos of liquor and food. My thing is why not go directly to your boss and discuss your situation instead of putting a letter out there.

That white privilege be making EM think they're invincible

I wouldn't take a job out in SF unless I'm make mid-100ks. I don't know why that chick even thinks $1200 on rent while making $12/hr was even realistic.

I wouldn't take a job in SF if I wasn't making like 200k. Mid 100s is cool there, but honestly it's so ridiculously expensive, I don't know how People live there. I made a joke to my gf when we were there at a coffee shop that the baristas probably beg after work and that's why there are so many bums because anyone who works a job like a barista or cvs employee can't possibly afford to live there.

The city is so beautiful/amazing, but sheesh you got to have serious paper to live even normally there.

It's a dude but a 28 year old dude who was working at Gamestop for a while and his mom hooked him up with that first corp job through her connection.

He could have just chilled, how many jobs on your first day at entry level do you actually do work? It like people have to take time out their day to train and help you.

Why stress about free money?

He got the job through a connection his mother had and behaved like that? Way to put his mom in a bad position.

That makes it even worse.

1.) He quits after 2.5 hours on his first day, indicating that he lacks maturity, drive, and social awareness.

2.) His mom got him this gig. He now makes her and everyone else who hooked him up look very bad.

3.) It's safe to assume that this cushy corporate gig paid a lot more than GameStop retail.

Dude quit a GameStop corporate job
mean.gif

Idiot
Na he was working at Gamestop retail and quit the corporate job because he said he is not cut out for the corporate world after 2.5 hours of work...

Also he was able to get his job back at the retail store since he had save vacation time his Manager was able to use for his time missed.

It's like how pass up a decent job to go back to playing games for free.

Dude you can still play games.

Ooooooh
Man I was just in GameStop on Saturday
As I was walking in they had a hiring sign
Was thinkin man I can do that for about 2 days a week just for the discount
After I get off my normal job
Talk games could be cake *** job
Then noticed the bum folks working in there
And changed my mind QUICK

It was legit 9 people living in the house at one time. They converted the basement into a bedroom/recording studio and the attic into an apartment. Stressful.

This dude is an entitled idiot. You can't make an assessment about the company from just 2.5 hours

I would have been on my phone posting on NT and running some SpaceChem. When they ready for me, they will come get me, otherwise I will sit my *** here doing nothing and getting paid for it

And most importantly, don't quit one job without a backup plan. That should be common sense :smh:
