Is The, "It Is Disrespectful To Your Ancestors If You DON'T Vote" Logic Still Valid?

the history of voting has been one of exclusion. can anybody tell me 5 things voting has accomplished?

we should know by know voting is the easiest thing to do but it's a poor substitute for democracy, which requires direct action from the people. every substantial gain for the people has been fought on them streets, in them factoris, NOT in the ballot box.

Things have NOT gotten worse since Obama took office, either.

I think you are very naive about how bad race relations were in this country at one time.

But have they gotten better? You want me to clap because they traded the noose for skewed incarceration rates, higher black unemployment (double that of whites), housing discrimination no matter your income, piss poor education in black communities, etc. So now it's a slow death, yeah... That's better I guess. We'll make sure you're dumb, unemployed and pumped full of poison.

I'm from the South. Louisiana to be exact. I was born 9 years after the BLACK Civil Rights movement "ended". You know the one where they killed off the powerful leaders, caused infighting in the effective groups and bought off the ***** *** dudes and made them the face of the movement?

I grew up with the children of parents that just a couple of decades ago were all about that bull **** when it came to us ******. You think in those 9 years a great switch was flipped and minds suddenly changed toward my people?

You think as an adult now living in San Diego, which is only 8% black, things are THAT different? I'm not naive about race relations. Just because YOU can provide for yourself and I can feed my family, doesn't mean it's that way for all of my people. Just because they accept a few of us doesn't mean they want all of us as their neighbors. You really think white folks share what their families think about us with us? Hell, a lot of these so called liberals don't really mess with us, they tolerate us. I'm at work, but I'll give you plenty of data when I get home.

Yes, jail cells after the opportunity of a trial (of which, upwards of 90% waive in exchange for a plea bargain,) are much better than being hung in the street or tarred and feathered without a trial of any kind. Yes, higher unemployment rates are better than literally no black people being able to legally work due to unions (which was the original intent of worker unions, to disparage business owners from hiring freed slaves for a 10th of the cost.) Yes, housing discrimination is better than it being illegal to own any property whatsoever. And finally, yes piss poor education is better than it being illegal for us to read.

By my own admission we still have a lot of work to to. But to say things haven't gotten better is very inaccurate in my opinion. I'm not saying applaud the great white hope, but I am saying that people should stop saying that race relations have gotten worse in this country, and I'm saying they should stop blaming any perceived lack of improvement on Obama. It's not his fault people still believe the things they've believed for hundreds of years.

Yes it's disrespectful and plain stupid not to vote.
Yes. Because me taking time out of my day to vote for one of two liars who will do absolutely nothing to try and help me isn't stupid. Why would I waste my time when I don't want either to be president? Because they say you're supposed to? I just won't play their game instead.

I actually WANT Trump to be president and not because I agree with anything he says. I want a legit out in the open racist to be the face of a legit out in the open racist country. Then people can drop the "racism/slavery/civil rights struggle is over" routine.

This is a perspective that I hadn't thought of and it's a good one at that. It could wake up the nation to a degree or it could further disenchant people from the political process all together.

In regards to the OP's question, this is what my ancestors fought for. As John Adams once said: "Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself."

That is how I feel.

Politics = Pro Wrestling. One big performance. They all probably go back home and drink Carona's together laughing at how dumb America is

Some of y'all act like voting is a magic pill.

It takes time to have change and progress.

It may not change YOUR life immediately but it can help your children and grandchildren.

Heck it may help only a little.

But I damn sure know not voting at all isn't going to help ****.

How is voting more beneficial than NOT voting when neither party is to your liking? I am missing this part of your argument. You keep saying people are stupid and dumb but haven't explained how voting promotes progress.

When the two main parties are known to be in bed with each other and not really desirable but puts Americans in a position to pick the best of two bad choices?

Depends if you care or respect your ancestors.

Also the voting process was not the same then as it is now. There's an argument in many states for your individual vote in a presidential election being worthless.

yeah yeah Gave y'all a pretty succinct answer as why vote but some of y'all don't want to hear it and just want be to apathetic and angry.

DCAA acting like this 10th grade civics class and trying to make this some critical thinking exercise.

I'm not angry. It's just a waste of my time. I already know this country's policies are garbage and always will be. Voting for some lying old person won't change that.

Keep making blanket statements but when someone asks you to explain yourself you run away using laughing men. Cool. Got you. I don't expect anything else from you though.

People that don't vote are stupid. Cool

And not voting will make it better?

Your time is that valuable that you can't take 5 mins to vote? I just voted on Sunday afternoon and it took just 5 mins.

You're going let other voters decide what's best for you?

And you just ignored the first part of my post.

Nobody ever said NOT voting will make things better.

We asked, how does voting for nonsense candidates make anything better. I am not even sure which type of "progression" you were referring to.

Dude. Choosing the least of two evils is something a lot of people aren't down with. So we vote Hilary, the lying shapeshifting dabbing puppet or the blatant racist rich guy. I don't want any part of that circus.

You have the choice of not voting and things getting potentially worse for your ideology/ world view/ lifestyle whatever you want to call or voting and things getting potentially better for your ideology.

Yep I don't want to vote for the LESSER of 2 "evils" and let other people decide on the "evils"

Which could potentially let the worse "evil" win.

That's just apathetic.

Bearnie samders has no shot at winning because most of his supporters are cool with sharing his messages on Facebook but actually going out to vote takes too much effort
