Actually saying I don't want kids reinforces my values when it comes to this matter. Children aren't here for your bloody amusement. I don't want kids of my own (at least that's how I feel for now) but I am very open to adopting. If you are having children and you care about their sex, you really shouldn't be having children of your own, because if that child turns out the way you don't want that may be a problem.
I agree with all of this and have the same mentality as far as my own situation presently.

To some people they actually are though. Sentiment and material aren't measured the same way by everyone homie.
Dog, the value of your surname vs. your kids being financially stable after your death can't be compared.

Explain to be the value of your surname being continued and how that is on the same level as making sure your kids are looked out for?

I really can't see how you can compare those two things.

The surname thing is SOLELY for EGO purposes, nothing further

My father has 4 sons.

My brother already has 2 daughters. I feel like we will all have daughters. But I'll be blessed as long as the child is healthy it doesn't matter to me

Good ol mysogonist NT

Dudes terrified of anything that has to do with a woman, including having a daughter, what I've taken from my own personal experience is that the dudes that are so hell bent on having a boy comes as a reflection on how they themselves view/treat women...

May not come as a surprise but I've always wanted a daughter.

I always wanted 2, close in age (since my sister and I are 10.5 years apart) and he could help protect his sister that way. We'll see, probably not having any more anytime soon

Ultimate crying game is choosing a son and he comes out wanting to play with barbies.

Rather let nature deal with gender selection

Have you ever watched Sopranos? Christopher nearly beats Adriana to death when she admits to being barren. Trust me when I say that rings true in certain circles.

Gun to my head if you asked me if I wanted a boy or girl I'm saying boy, easily. Would I pay for the 'service' of guaranteeing a boy? No. Let it happen naturally. I wouldn't love my daughter(s) any less if all attempts led to baby girls.

If I was given the option, well yeah....id choose a boy. It's getting spooky out here though. Need to find me a tall athletic chick, and make a future NBA player.

Skylar Diggins can provide me with a few 6'3 combo guards. :pimp:.

I am simply saying that, "Keeping my surname alive" is feeding the ego of a DEAD person when you really think about it. That is all I am saying.

As if we don't already have race issues, we gon have genetically modifieds hatin on the organics in the future. Im not messin with mother nature cuh.

I always wanted a daughter, and got one the first time around. The second time, twin boys. I'd switch up the order if I could go back.

Anyone notice how common twins have become over the years? There were 7 sets of twins in kindergarten at my kids school last year, and that was just the kindergarten class. Was told there were a few more throughout the school.

I'm gonna let the sperm and egg fertilization do their thing, no reason to mess with a natural process. :pimp:

They were focusing on trying to get rid of diabetes and something else.

But what I gathered is it's a package deal. You can't fool ppl in to thinking you can block HIV but can't make them 7ft tall

There's pitfalls to it on the cosmetic side the question is just where do you stop. The way we've already gone with surface to invasive solutions from tanning and hair extensions to butt and breast implants, they'll be a lot of arguments for why it should be done and the slippery slope argument won't be a good enough defense.

If humanity is really ******* up the ecosystem to the point we're not dying enough and what not I'm sure mother nature will provide a swift solution until we learn how to control the weather.

Genetic therapy for HIV is possible, people with a certain gene are susceptible to HIV remember the kid who was cured. I forget what the gene is, but it causes a lower viral burden on the patient and makes it easier to cure.

Many cancers have a genetic component and can be treated with genetic therapy.

There are many other examples, I belief there is genetic "therapy" for cystic fibrosis.

However pre-conception and prenatal genetic therapy is a new frontier. I mean we have mapped in entire human genome so it isn't unfathomable that one day we could literally get rid of every human imperfection.

But do we really want that?
:nerd:   Like you said we are already a f****** burden on this planet, we have no natural predators. We're just breeding uncontrollably.

That being said, if we reach a critical mass I believe it will only lead to our extinction.
While we can get rid of things on a genetic level there will still be imperfections. Unless we're getting in to neurologically correcting certain behaviors there's still the imperfection of the personality, what ppl believe in, etc. Even if we can make ppl smarter. Common sense still aint common.

My answer would be yes to wanting getting rid of certain things.

As for where we go next and the possibility of reaching a critical mass, there should definitely be enough ppl governing those decisions.
Saying you want a son is like saying you want a puppy...kids don't work that way. You have to love all your kids the same otherwise you are a weak unfit parent. You shouldn't bring kids into this world as a Paris Hilton toy pet.

Usually these are the same people who say not having a kid is selfish....a kid is not an accessory.

What if you want a son for the sake of preserving your surname?
Most black men's surname are slaves names anyway. Don't matter for the majority.

These genetic manipulations will put natural selection into hyperdrive, everybody's kid finna come out looking like a mixture of Idris Elba and Brad Pitt, with a 10 inch penis, 10 feet tall like catcher freeman with biceps on biceps, with the intelligence of Stephen Hawkings.

We should really leave this alone. It wont end well. But then again, it may be the beginning of real life mutants.
I agree...but if we talking about mutants and we have the ability to pick superpowers or some **** i'm picking teleportation so my son/daughter won't have to own a car and can vacation whenever and wherever they want.
Men and women have their flaws, I will teach my daughter to roll with the punches but when it comes down to it be aware of male-female dynamics and dont let it stop you from being great.

I actually kinda want daughters, and one son who will clearly be an a-hole like me.

**** I agree again I wasn't expecting this in this thread
