If this lesser of two evils is available, I'd go with adoption.

Yup, this is correct.I don't think there's anyway to gauge the severity of autism in an unborn child. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. From my experience you gotta take them to a specialist when they're like 2 or 3 to see where they land on the spectrum.Very sad, what about autism? My friends brothers child has it but it isn't as severe. How does one gauge the severity?
its expensive and if a person cannot provide adequate care or is stressed out and emotionally unavailable (which we all know that a lack of $ can cause), i completely understand why people terminate, and I would be one of them...http://www.cdc.gov/features/birthdefectscostly/
- Down syndrome: The medical costs for a child with Down syndrome were 12 to 13 times higher than a child without Down syndrome. If a child with Down syndrome also has a congenital heart defect, families experience even higher medical costs (3).
Indeed... I would be wondering if it was because of me.. did I not take care of my health enough?man i have thought about these things myself, very difficult situation
Nah, I had that response qued up a few weeks ago and it was responding to someone that mentioned autism
Down syndrome doesn't automatically give you symptoms of autism...in fact kids with DS can be sociable and loving. People assume every neurodevelopment disorder has autistic traits.
Children's behaviour and social development is influenced by temperament and personality. Some children are anxious in temperament, others placid and calm. Some children are outgoing and sociable, others are shy and find it less easy to make friends. Research studies indicate that the range of temperamental and personality characteristics among children with Down syndrome is the same as the range observed in typically developing children. There is little evidence to support the stereotype which suggests that all children with Down syndrome are invariably placid and happy.
We play God all time time though. All of uslife is precious. I'm not playing God
It depends on if there are associated physical anomalies.
There's a spectrum with Downs and some can have severe heart defects, GI problems etc. I wouldn't want to bring a child into the world just to suffer
Yea I was going to bring these up, then I learned that the life expectancy for people with down syndrome today is 60+. I'll be lucky if I make it past 40.
I'm guessing the ones with the most severe anomalies either die within the first year or so. I don't think there's a way to detect the severity early during the window where abortion would be acceptable.
It's a hard subject to think about, I doubt I'd be able to abort the baby though
