Why is it so hard to drive the speed limit?

We all know speeding is a big no-no you get pulled over, you're in a hurry, you're running late you have to use the bathroom, excuses. Speeding saves time of course but if you think about it unless you're going well above the speed limit how much time are you actually saving.

Who has control of their time enough to the point that when they get in a car never speed?

I tried to go a day without going over the speed limit. At the end of the day I was beyond stressed.

saves on gas...i don't have the funds to fill up 3 or 4 times per week if I was flooring it...so i drive 60-65 mph

Limits, do they even exist?
Or is it just a made up word to destroy our dreams?
Thanks to new Odor Blocker
The most powerful Old Spice antiperspirant in the world.
I was free of sweat's tyrannical rule over my body.
And push myself even further.
Should I stop?
Should I have listened to all the critics?
Should I have taken even a basic ground level engineering course of some type?
Yes
Yes, I should have
But the most valuable lesson I have ever learned..
Is that if you fill your brain with knowledge..
Then there won't be any room for dreams.
And my dream is to take the wheel and drive.

I speed to get away from the idiots on the road. People need to get ticketed for driving under the speed limit on the highway left lane. No one on the road? Cruise control on 60.

Here is what the Montana data shows. (chart below) After all the politically correct safety programs were in place and fully operational, complete with federal safety funds, more laws and citations being issued. Here are the results.

1. After the new Speed Limits were established, interstates fatal accidents went up 111%. From a modern low of 27 with no daytime limits, to a new high of 56 fatal accidents with speed limits.

2. On interstates and federal primary highways combined, Montana went from a modern low of 101 with no daytime limits, to a new high of 143 fatal accidents with speed limits.

3. After a 6 year downward trend in the percentage of multiple vehicle accidents on its 2 lane primary highways, multiple vehicle accident rates increased again.

4. With the expectation of higher speed when there was no daytime limit, Montana’s seat belt usage was well above the national average on its highways without a primary law, lane and road courtesy increased, speeds remained relatively stable and fatal accidents dropped to a modern low. After the new limits, fatal accidents climbed to a modern high on these classifications of highway, road courtesy decreased and flow conflict accidents rose again.

I'm WELL above the speed limit. Over the course of my life, i will probably save myself at least an extra 3 years from time spent commuting.

....and with advances in modern science, and my high level of income, its not crazy to think i can live to be 245 maybe 300.

If so I could save myself a whopping decade of time to do other things compared to the average slow, indecisive, passive driver.

Always drive ~5 above the speed limit. No reason to go any faster than that. I see folks blow past me only for me to end up right next to 'em smiling and nodding to 'em at the red-light.

If you slowly accelerate to 80 there's not a big difference between that and 60. Braking hard and fast accelerations are the big culprits

I'm the same. Usually about five over. It's kind of pointless in the city to drive faster, especially where I live where, even in no traffic on I-5, people drive five under. I look like Speed Racer and I'm only going 63 lol. On arterial streets, if I'm going five over the limit and you tailgate me, you can bet your *** I will slow down to one mile per hour below the speed limit. And, if you try and pass me, yes, I will speed up.

Where do y'all live at?

In my city, during rush hour or just any other time of the day, if we're aware the boys aren't out scumming for tickets you can expect everyone to be going 7-10+ over

During rush hour speeding isn't even possible in LA

Where you live at that traffic isn't crawling at rush hour?

I gotta admit I drive relatively fast. Freeway speed limit is 55-65mph in CA, I'm 80-85mph anytime the freeway is uncongested.

Might sound kind of fast but you gotta understand my driving style. I basically don't break on the freeway, straight coast 90% of time. When I'm going over 80 I understand the distance and timing between the next car/bend in road in front of me and I understand where the space is in the lanes to either side of me. No untelegraphed lane changes, strictly steady acceleration.

We going 85 but shorty say it feel like 60 :pimp:

Driving in Miami for 7years, barely anybody on the freeway touches 80+. They hover around 60-65. And I see state troopers everywhere.

Driving in San Diego for 6 months, seems like everyone on the freeway is going 85. And I never see the CHP except for accidents.

i live in LA

who can actually make it to the speed limit in the first place?

I'm happy to be doing 45 on the freeway

In my acura integra, that used to bother me.  in my tuned VW GTI, your feeble attempt to speed up wont matter, I'm gone already. I switch to sport mode for people like you, that way i dont need to wait for the turbo to spool up.

I don't tailgate unless there are excessive gaps in front... like 4-6 car lengths in the passing lane and i cant pass because you and the next guy want to drive next to each other. i dont get why people cant close gaps and resume coasting. otherwise stay to the right

If driven properly the only time you need to break on the freeway is to exit. If you need to get over, speed up and get over in the next available space. you should never be getting over at the last minute and slowing wayyy down to wait for other cars to pass. 85% of traffic jams is people afraid to merge by speeding the **** up.

I try to keep it at 80 or below on the freeway. On the streets I really only try to respect residential speed limits (25 mph). Everywhere else on the skreetz is getting to' up.
