Rest in Peace Phife Dawg

Legit shed a tear. One of my favorite rappers ever. To this day, always get hyped when I hear his 1st verse from Buggin' Out - "Microphone check 1, 2 what is this? The 5 footer 7 with the rough neck business . . . "

RIP.

Maaaaaaan......

Was listening to some Tribe on a road trip with my wife this past weekend and we were both rapping every single word. Phife was literally a part of our youth--so much so that two damn near 40-year olds still know the lyrics word for word some 20+ years later.

It's crazy when you grow up with the music of someone and it makes them feel like family. There are only a few groups and artists that I can say that about, but Phife and ATCQ definitely fit that bill. Sad to see him gone so young. Rest in Peace, Malik.

Wooow thats some awful news man :\

I was just listening to midnight marauders last night :frown:,RIP to a true legend :smh:.

Gonna have tribe in rotation for the rest of the week.

Man, I'm kinda at a loss for words. ATCQ is my favorite rap group of all time and my earliest memories of anything involving rap have to do with them. Phife, despite his health struggles, was extremely open on social media and LOVED to chop it up with fans and chat. Especially about basketball. I'm gonna be repping the group hard today as I know the other members are hurting. RIP.

Sad news

I hope him and Tip squashed things.

He had been dealing with a lot over the past ten years.

Ugh, sad news. I know he was having health issues, but damn this sucks.

I hope phife n tip cleared things up before this.

I know it often gets overlooked, but I'd encourage everyone to go back and listen to Beats, Rhymes & Life. Amazing album that I feel doesn't get the credit it deserves.

Don't really post on NT anymore but had to come by to pay my respects on NT.

Wow, this one hit me... I remember when I first heard Ham N Eggs & later saw the vid for Can I Kick It debut on Yo! MTV Raps. I was hooked on ATCQ. I remember anticipating the release for A Low End Theory & gunning to Kemp Mill Records my senior year of High School to cop the CD. They went on an run of great albums like Midnight Marauders & as superblytrife superblytrife mentioned Beats.

Phife was the perfect counter point to Tip & always loved his sports references. There really wasn't an emcee out there like Phife. He was truly an original.

Tribe is still part of my musical diet. My macbook is sticker bombed with some Tribe stickers from ETSY, my computer room & office at work each have ATCQ posters... A Low End Theory & Miles Davis' Kind of Blue are 2 albums I'd take if I were stuck on a deserted island .

RIP Phife... Condolences to the group especially Phife's boy Jarobi, his family & friends & especially his wife who donated a kidney to her beloved husband... We lost a great one NT...

RIP Phife .. Always loved his solo cuts on the atcq albums... " I am not the one got more game than Parker brothers Phife dawg is on the mic and I'm smoothe like butter".

I remember almost getting folded by my brother because we had a extremely heated debate about which album was better, Low End Theory or Midnight Marauders. In retrospect it was a dumb argument to have because both were monumental and both albums really cemented them as one of the greatest rap groups of all time, and Native Tongues as one of the greatest musical collectives that we'll ever see in our lifetime. It is a hard pill to swallow that Phife is gone. I really hope him TIP settled any differences that they had. I know him and Jarobi were really tight so he is probably taking this loss harder than any other member of the group.

"When was the last time you heard a funky diabetic"?

- Phife Dawg (oh my God!)

I woke up this morning scrolling through my IG and saw the sad news about Phife Dawgs passing. As a diabetic myself, this is a huge eye opener about taking my health waaay more serious. But as A Tribe Called Quest fan, I'm deeply saddened to hear this. Out of him and Q-Tip, Phifes lyrics were more catchy and clever.

May he R.I.P |I
