Rest in Peace Phife Dawg

"When was the last time you heard a funky diabetic"?

- Phife Dawg (oh my God!)

I woke up this morning scrolling through my IG and saw the sad news about Phife Dawgs passing. As a diabetic myself, this is a huge eye opener about taking my health waaay more serious. But as A Tribe Called Quest fan, I'm deeply saddened to hear this. Out of him and Q-Tip, Phifes lyrics were more catchy and clever.

May he R.I.P

Hell, I found out from NT. I saw RIP Phife in the Celebrity Rocking Heat Thread, I was like maybe they misspelled Meki Pheifer's name they can't be talking about Phife Dawg, he's first up to bat, no batteries included and no strings attached.

My iPhone is set to shuffle mode this mernin' & played these 2 gems in a row... Weird who shuffle mode can operate so appropriately like that... SMH, still can't believe Phife passed away. So glad the wifey & I saw ATCQ a couple of times during their reunion tour a couple of years back... When we saw them here in Bmore, Phife ever the sports fanatic came out in a Baltimore Orioles T shirt & I was like "word"...

It's going to be a good workout for a couple of weeks, I'll have mine on shuffle as well at the gym. Still hard to believe that he passed.

I know it often gets overlooked, but I'd encourage everyone to go back and listen to Beats, Rhymes & Life. Amazing album that I feel doesn't get the credit it deserves.

Agree. And I've also come to appreciate the Love Movement more over the years. I introduced my wife to ATCQ years ago and LM happens to be her favorite of the Tribe albums. Doesn't compare to Low End Theory or Midnight Marauders, but is solid in its own right. Even a "below average" Tribe album is still great.

The best part about Phife is he came across as a genuinely good dude, like he was a regular down to earth guy. Like you could easily walk down your street and he'd be there. TIP is cool, but he gives off this vibe that he is above a lot of it all, but Phife seemed like the type of guy that would get off of the stage and come chop it up with you, sports, music, whatever, he seemed so damn relatable. No gimmicks, no stunts, no exclusivity like the crop of guys out now, just seemed like a real cool dude.

Absolutely agree. He always came off as a very accessible dude. Sad day. RIP.

RIP Phife Dawg. Only had the opportunity to catch Tribe in concert once back in the mid 90's. Just glad I was able to see him perform live once. Whatever is your upper echelon for Hip Hop Phife Dawg/#ATCQ is definitely in it.

This whole thing is bumming me out even more because just a few months ago I heard Phife on Ed Lover's radio show saying he was feeling good and ready to work on new music and/or tour. Then Tribe actually did get back together for that performance on Fallon to commemorate the 25th anniversary of People's Instinctive Travels... Seemed like for the first time in forever there was a realistic possibility of the doing something. That's part of why I found the news of Phife's death so shocking, despite knowing he had health issues.

So, again, RIP to him. Time to just celebrate the brilliance he gave us while he was around.

**** man this is so depressing

8 Million Stories is one of my favorite songs

My favorite Phife lines are on that song and it's a personal top 5 Trube song for me.

Found the news out opening at work and threw Tribe on my headphones and my eyes got real watery. RIP Phife.

Damn, was in the 3rd grade when Scenario came out. Copped the cassette single asap and phife's verse was definitely my favorite on there. "Bo knows this, and Bo knows that, but Bo don't know jack, cause Bo can't rap" :smokin

Damn this is awful news, RIP Phife

He was so underrated on the mic and full of quotables for days. If his verse was starting off a song, you know it was gonna be memorable. I'm just happy I got to see Tribe perform live once. My condolences to his family and friends.

Old head at my job told me bout this earlier...damn. RIP. Phife aint look good in that ATCQ documentary from a couple years ago either :smh:

Not the biggest fan of his, but Mac Miller put together a nice tribute track to Phife...

Kendrick Lamar was doing a show down under & got the crowd in Sydney to pay tribute to Phife.

Still can't believe he passed away... :smh:

:frown: Gone too soon. Never got to catch Tribe live and I'm going to have to live with that regret forever now that Phife is gone.

Didn't know who he was really but RIP. I thought Kanye West was a member of Tribe Called Quest. The first time I heard his name was on a Drake song. I'll go listen to some Tribe Called Quest on Apple Music and see how it goes.
