I gotta start off by saying I've never been able to get into female rappers. A few weeks ago my boy told me to check out this girl from Oakland who's been making noise, I didn't pay a single damn.
Couple days later I'm at my brother's house and he's playing something dope as hell that sounds like a reworked version of Boosie's "Top to the Bottom," I'm thinking damn this ***** sounds really really good.
I ask him who's that and he says it's Kamaiyah, same girl my homie was talking about.
Man this tape is amazing. Super heavy Mobb Music and Gfunk influences. Production is fire front to back, lyrically it's basic but not in a bad way, just a lot of fun party records about having fun in the hood. Eerily relatable, girl has crazy charisma. Perfect for summer. I definitely recommend checking it out if you like classic West Coast sounds.
For someone like me who finds it hard to tolerate female rappers, it really helps that you'd never know it was a female based off sound or lyrics alone (except for one track ****** which would be a highlight if it wasn't for the subject matter).
If it's not over 70 degrees yet in your hood maybe hold off a couple of weeks to get the full experience. When it warms up play this with the windows down.
