It was in '98. I got a pair when they first released and I was so in love with those shoes. When I see people with the current retro on their feet I literally am taken back in time. There hasn't been any other sneaker to do that to me.

90s???? 1990s???

Nah guys 80s and it aint even close.

As far as making an impact on American culture, style and identity It probably goes 50s, 80s, and 70s.

Poll says it aint close at all.

Well damb lol.

I think musically its up in the air.
A ton of great music in all genres came out in the 80s and 90s.

Same with film and television.

Sneakers no contest 90s.

Fashion influence is debatable becuz both the 80s and 90s had alot of.....ummmmm.......missteps.

Sports i think 90s becuz of jordan.

I dunno honestly im not too keen on the 1980s.

But likr i said its all preference.

I was born in 1981, and I didn't like the late 90s. There's just something off about that period. I think it's how everyone was smug and thought that we were so technologically advanced, but looking back the technology was so crap. The early Internet was frustrating and mad slow. Cell phones started to become mainstream in the second half of the 90s, but they were oversized crap with antennas. So many video games were developed just to impress with fancy 3D graphics and polygons, but looking back the gameplay was poor and few of those games stood the test of time and are seen as classics. All those 3D fighting franchises are dead today with the exception of Tekken and most people feel that 2D fighting is superior. Everything was "virtual": Virtual reality, virtual sex, virtual this, virtual that.

dude

are you serious??:smh:

I don't think an NT poll is very scientific

Majority of members here probably didn't see the 80's and can't actually compare the two.

Just Jordan 1-4 being released in the 80's means it absolutely is a contest though

Like I said, everything this site was built to celebrate pretty much popped off in the 80s.

I'll take 1, 3, 4 over anything in the 90's except maybe 11's.

Dead serious.

And to me joints like AF1's and Dunks (80's joints) are still head and shoulders above most 90's releases in addition to J's.

They were still selling like mad and were the "collectable" models in 2000 and on.

First visible air in the 80's.

Reebok Pump.

90's got the runners (Max etc.) though.

I'm just saying, "no contest" is a stretch.

Yeah alot of ya underestimating 80's influences.

And in retrospect,

80's hiphop fits > 90's hiphop fits.

Da baggy era...it was fun, but damm...

Jordan 11 - 14 are the pinnacle of sneaker design to me.

Consecutive sneakers that were completely different and each amazing.

my favorite run ever.
