i dont think people understand why/ how cultural appropriation works and think that black people are upset about other people being inspired by our culture. This doesn't even relate to JB that much..

The problem with cultural appropriation is that A LOT of these things that have been popular in black culture for years & were bashed or looked down upon by other cultures..... suddenly get picked up by white people & all the negative feedback that was attributed to us for doing something just isn't there for other cultures.

On top of the view changing for other cultures, these publications and brands constantly try to give black culture no credit & act as if this person from another culture just randomly created that style or is some kind of innovator.

We have high fashion brands selling $100 durags to white women acting as if this isn't DIRECTLY from hiphop culture... It's not the fact that a durag is something black people find sacred or anything like that, it's the fact that if i was to go out in one it would be considered ghetto/classless & those same designers who boosted the look will be given credit for being edgy & innovative.

Their are publications & in turn plenty of young white women who are convinced that Kim K hairstyle (basically ******* cornrows) were popularized by her & acting as if it's some new style created by middle America. Enough is enough B

Actually Vikings had dreads and also ancient Greeks. Some say they originated in India. Just curious, what are your thoughts on black people dying their hair blonde or straightening it ?

But why is it called "cultural appropriation" when only white folks glom on to different enthic swags?

What about when a asian digs hiphop, or a black guy dabs into da slasa, or a hispanic gets some kanji tattoos..

because the black guy dabbing to salsa isn't gonna get credit for popularizing salsa, the hispanic isn't gonna get credit or recognition for creating the kanji tattoos, Asians aren't getting credit for starting hiphop

This isn't about banning people from enjoying things in our culture, It's about people not completely taking the things we created and putting their names on it like has happened CONTINUALLY throughout history.

Dabbing to salsa!!! I'm weak     [emoji]128557[/emoji][emoji]128557[/emoji][emoji]128557[/emoji][emoji]128557[/emoji][emoji]128557[/emoji]

I have never in my existence heard anyone claim or even insinuate that black people "created" that look or were the ones who populated it, THIS is the point that people continually try to bring up & it's not the same at all.

Be inspired by whatever you want in black culture, but in America when it comes to anything black being included simply isn't enough for the public... they want to use it and claim it as their own & this is when the backlash is created. for a lack of better words people are trying to rewrite the history books without us in it, as usual.

That's a little different and deals with the eurocentric standards of beauty

And where is this $100 du rag that "white women" are wearing ?

I think that has a lot to do with European beauty standards. Black women are told by society that their natural hair is nappy and unkept.
