Has anyone worked at a casino? I'm going to have a year off between applying for school and heard you can make some good money on tips, is this true? Would it be better to be a bartender or a dealer

Likely a bartender.

Bartenders likely make more tips and you'll be better off than most bartenders considering casino security is top notch.

Dealers are cool but you'll deal with a lot more drama with people losing money due to your doing. (In their mind)

Just my 2cents, I have heard that Casino food service is a good place to be as well cause I was looking into culinary school at one point. If they get paid well I'm sure the bartenders are making $$$.

EDIT: not to mention I bet all the drunk people who win lots of money will tip you big sometimes. :smokin

I would check to see if the casino pulls tips and splits or if you keep their own... I would assume larger ones like Pechanga splits tips, but smaller card rooms keep your own...

Every house I worked at, you split tips. Apples to oranges if u wanna compare bartending or dealing. Bartending is fun and can make a lot of money. That environment>> Dealing for awhile and you see some crazy sad stuff man. You can make good money certain nights if you have a huge winner or huge gamblers do well.

I've worked in a casino for four years now. As dealers we pull tips where I work (Barona) and the money is decent. You can definitely make more if you want by working overtime, extra days, special events, etc... From what I hear though you can make more in casinos where you keep your own because players will tip you more when they know you keep it yourself

This is true, coming from a gambler. Usually at bigger casinos where they pool their tips, i never bet for the dealer and only toss em a few red chips when/if i color up. But at smaller casinos where they get individual tips, im more generous and toss a nickel bet for the dealer when the shoes hot, or toss em some chips after a nice hand.

Idk about the bartending but I've worked at 3 different casinos as a dealer, always splitting the tokes (tips). some paid less than others but with tokes added to the base pay you should average out to at least $20 an hour. 20 minute break every hour, bonuses, etc...I'd rather be a dealer anyday

no, but i know a few people who have in Connecticut we have Foxwoods and Mohegan

they were making like 1k a week..............

so yea most made 50k no bs, but i think the hours were long

dealer>bartender
