Psychologically, What Does Wearing Fakes or Grey Markets Really Say About A Person's Character?

This isnt like a troll answer or anything but honestly

I dont give a **** wat anyone wears.

It doesnt make me think any more or any less of them.

I guess there was a point wen i felt sum kind if way about someone who knowingly wore fakes.......but not anymore.

Really? I see people rocking fake Jordans/Foams in the DMV all the time and it makes me SMH. Not that I care, but I just wonder if they know, and honestly, I think less of them for not being an informed buyer. Ignorance is bliss though I guess. Like I said I've happily worn fakes before I knew they were fakes

Now if I had a homie who knowingly wore fakes I would call them out on it. That's lame. Don't play yourself.

Over the years, lots, not even just celebrities, industry people who lurk, or research NT. As I've stated dozens of times, it would be petty to name drop. I simply don't need to. I have nothing to prove to anyone.

Is that you in your avy? I browse NT every weekday, have seen you post on all of your SNs, and still have no clue what you look like  I have no idea how a celebrity would recognize you outside of NT, let a lone someone who's on NT all the time.

I've had non-celebrities notice me in real life and it's creepy as hell. I don't see a celebrity reaching out like that, especially to someone who doesn't seem to post in the threads about shoes/clothing at all.

Wondering what he would be recognized for tbh.

OP What celebrities have recognized you from NT?

Do you wear knockoff or grey market items?

No, I wear what I can afford, if I can't afford it brand new, I'll by it pre-owned or trade. Buying items that's not directly from the manufacturer is corny, it's their designs, it's their technology, it's part of their brand. There's a difference between being a loyal customer and being tool. If you wear grey markets, then you're a tool.

Any other source is corny? Like Amazon, consignment shops, second hand stores, eBay, etc?

Where do you acquire pre owned items?

I don't care what other people wear ftr. Unless it's funny, then I care.

No disrespect but my life is very different than yours, I'm quite sure of this. People who just meet me end up apologizing for sizing me up as a liar, or exaggerator.

Again, I can't really explain the intricacy of my life or how I end up in certain social circles. But trust me, on everything I love I've had well known celebs crack jokes like, "hey don't you be on Niketalk?"

It's not creepy at all, I've had a few non-celebrities notice me as well. It's truly no big deal. They're just people.

What's concerning to me is what type of life certain users lead to where they think that someone would lie about normal day-to-day stuff on a forum. They're either curious high-schoolers or grown *** introverts with no live skills or experience.

I just live life breh, honestly. I have bad days and good days. I'm far from rich, and don't live in luxury at all. In fact, I live in a regular New York apartment.

I shop at thrift stores, and online. If I catch a pair of sneaks on eBay that I like, I'd cop em'. Living in NYC awards me accessibility to the Fashion District and sample sales. Flagship stores are giving away clothes for free they're so cheap. It's truly that simple. I think the problem with a lot of users is how they see themselves. So when I post something, to them, they have to question it, because of who THEY are. Not me.

They all come from the same sweatshop imo

Maybe because I'm self employed and often contracted I understand the hard work that goes into curating a brand. The power of a company comes from the brand loyalty. People will pay whatever they feel the brand is worth to their lifestyle.

When you buy fakes, you're being a tool. You just want to be like everyone else. You have no personal value, or self-identity. You're a true attention seeker.
See I don't agree with that at all. I don't really care if anybody likes what I like. If I think a sneaker looks cool and I wanna wear it and you offer it to me for half the price who cares. Plus unless you only hang around sneaker enthusiasts ain't nobody know what kinda shoes you have on. They just see sneakers.

I feel more sorry for the guy who gets upset at people wearning "fake" sneakers than the actual wearer. Get a life

I think it would be more of an issue thinking/paying for the real deal and end up with some bootleg grey market items. Now if that is what you are going for so be it. Who cares.

This happens on probably every single forum out there though, there are plenty of documented examples. I mean there's a show called Catfish that can show you the kind of people who would do that stuff.

It's like some people constantly feel attacked and like they have to prove something or aggressively defend themselves, so they start embellishing and making up crazy stuff and lashing out at others so people will think they're cool and they'll feel accepted.

The internet is weird.

it's just hard to quantify because where does the argument end?

we're talking about character in the context of consumerism, brand-loyalty, and excess in luxury goods. (which in it of itself can be judged poorly)

we could sit here and say negative things about someone who would cut corners to maintain the appearance of exclusivity from a brand...but then that exact person who is criticizing could get judged by another who sees the totality of it as being worthless.

for example - someone who values sneakers could judge someone who buys fakes to say "you care so much about what others think - you'd buy fakes to uphold an image." well someone who doesn't value sneakers in general could then turn around and say to that person "you care so much about what others think - you buy overpriced goods that you ultimately just use to cover up your feet, to uphold an image. And you are so insecure about remaining exclusive you judge/care about someone who cuts corners to appear to be in your club."

so to me it's about value. your right to your value system means someone else has a right to have theirs - even if it's different form yours.

in short - I think it's pointless to figure out the psychology of those who buy fakes, because the same spirit probably is in those who have to have the latest and greatest authentic goods. Different, but in the end the same.

A female always knows. Last summer this dude tried to hit me with the "what are those" because I was wearing beat down AE canvases. I love American Eagle, I even buy vintage. Anyway, the females I was with clowned him for wearing fake AM95's. They had some in the trunk for walking around the city, his was were straight fu'gaze...

If the sneaker looks cool, why not pay the brand for their good work and craftsmanship? Why not by them secondhand online from a customer who may have made an impulse buy?

Idunno, it's something gross about not paying a business for their product, but sporting it. Like, what does that person stand for in life?

Dude, I just asked if that was you in your avy. Because otherwise how would people recognize you? I don't really care about the rest of the stuff you typed it's irrelevant. I'm not accusing you of lying...I just don't understand how someone could possibly recognize you. How could they? What would they accuse you of lying about any way? I'm lost.

Also, don't worry, I'm not offended by you telling me you're quite sure your life is very different than mine. You don't even know me  But tbh, we are probably in the same circle with a lot of the sneaker celebs because my best friend is deep in the fashion industry and I've met a lot of "celebrities" through him. We should link up next time I'm in NYC. PM me.

Consumerism is harmful to society imo. It low key encourages ungratefulness: yes, my ___ is nice, but the new ___ just came out and mine is inferior. America feasts on this notion.

"fake" shoes is definitely a first world problem. Take some "fakes" to underprivileged children anywhere in the world and see how they react. That's the hidden problem with luxury: once everyone has what they really need, let's make them feel inadequate by saying it's old, or it's fake.

Corporations exploit this ideal by using exclusivity as a tool. No way on hell should a shoe be 750 dollars.

Random, but I think there's a reason that dogs tend to chew up expensive items, that's their way of saying, this really isn't important, you don't need it.
Hell no, fakes are no bueno. Anyone who rocks fugazis is a cornball

Psychologically, What Does Making A Thread About Someone Wearing Fakes or Grey Markets Really Say About A Person's Character?
that they are inferior and seek other peoples approval by trying to stunt when they cant. That or the person just completely doesn't give a **** what is on their feet and just throws any garbage on and rocks em til they fall apart

you didn't even read what you were responding to did you? :smh:

Doesn't effect me

Go for it. I got a friend who has a fake Audemars. Looks nice but who am I to judge

fwiw - I read it the way you meant it. earnest curiosity instead of disrespectful accusations. not to assume - but it often is an indicator when someone over-reaches with strength for no good reason

, read it too quickly, missed the making a thread portion, which switches up the whole question. My answer to the person wearing fakes is what I responded to and my answer to the thread question would be homeboy is just posting up a topic of discussion and passing time. I don't think he is going to cats with fufu clothing on and asking them what is wrong in their brain

...word. Catfish kicks.

yea if you cant afford something faking the funk is not the way to go. an audemars piguet watch is out of my price range, you wont catch me trying to floss with a counterfeit just to impress people, that is ridiculous. everyone should wear what they want because they like it, not to impress others. that's just a bonus

 Cautionary tale:

im not gon lie - I do enjoy a good GM thread...I think it's really interesting the types of reactions that come out of this.

the definition of "authentic" vs "fake" in the full gamut of things.

for example : same material, same factory but unapproved - is that the same as straight up garbage material fakes?

more than sneakers - I think its just an interesting topic to discuss in terms of how we see goods, exclusivity, branding, and this culture in general

EDIT: as long as it's an open discussion...instead of just ignorant flame-throwing, that is.
