Help needed with a sketchy Chinese buyer through PayPal

I've read through the PayPal FAQ regarding buying and selling, the NT Buying and Selling guide and also did some research on some previous threads but I'm still a little unsure how I was supposed to handle the below transaction:

I listed a pair of NMD R1 PK Triple White's I got from ADC on eBay since I can't buy and sell on NT yet. I received plenty of offers via PM on eBay from guys looking to do the transaction directly through PayPal so that I wouldn't have to pay the eBay commission and therefore come down on my asking price. I ended up coming to an agreement with one of the buyers who was located in Flushing, NY, which is close to me so the shipping wouldn't be too bad.

Then **** got weird. I was planning on invoicing him on PayPal so I could include all of the details of the shoes and the transaction to cover myself in case anything went awry. However, he asked for my PayPal address first and said he was ready to send payment. I had a lapse in judgment and sent him my PayPal address and he sent the payment via eCheck (drawn from his linked bank account). I guess in my head I figured that if he sent the money first, I would just wait for it to clear to my account and then I would just send him the shoes and be done with it. He continued to ask me questions on eBay, asking me if I spoke Chinese (I'm half but do not speak the language - he probably assumed so because of my last name) and if I had WeChat, etc.

I look at the pending payment, and the dude's name on PayPal is in Chinese characters. I'm sure I need an English name to ship anything using American postal/courier services, so I asked him for his name in English. He brushed it off (literally responded with "haha" and kept asking if I received the payment. I explained to him that it was still pending, it takes 3-5 business days to clear, I wouldn't ship until it clears, etc. There was also no real details or description regarding the shoes in the payment. He then asked me to cancel the payment so he could try sending it again. TF? I reiterated that I still needed his name in English and he responded "haha. Can u cancel it tomorrow. My address is [Flushing, NY address]." At some point he said he wanted the shoes as soon as possible because it was for his friend's birthday.

I cancelled the payment but I don't intend on going through with the transaction for obvious reasons. I wanted to ask the following questions:

Assuming this guy actually had a name, if he paid via eCheck for goods and services without including any details regarding what the payment is for, is that an immediate red light to not complete the transaction? I'm guessing if I sent the shoes afterwards, he could have filed a claim with PayPal that what he received was not accurate and then PayPal would side with him.

Also, what if I had invoiced him first with all of the details surrounding the transaction, then he paid the invoice, then I shipped the shoes to him. Upon receiving the shoes, wouldn't he still be able to file a claim with PayPal that I sent him fraudulent or fake shoes, have the pending payment cancelled and then scam me of the shoes before the payment was ever truly in my PayPal balance?

yeah wouldn't bother, more trouble than its worth.

there are plenty of non-sketchy cats willing to cop shoes, no need to force it.
