HTTR 2017 Off-Season Thread | Dysfunction in DC...again |

RIP 21

Got back from Dallas yesterday. It was the longest walk of "shame" from our section to the shuttle :smh:. Swear I'm on atleast 5 IG stories walking out that damn stadium...

One thing I will say is the hometown Dallas fans are way more humble than the DC Dallas fan. Its all fun and games but damnit if it doesn't make my blood boil seeing the Cowboys succeed.

What makes it worse is that we lost by 5 after leaving 6-8 points on the field. Iced our own kicker.. not mad at the 2pt conversion try.. I am still mad at the onside kick with 10 mins to go in the 4th when you didn't have to. Hindsight is 20/20 but I just don't like the call, down 5, with that much time left. Granted the defense wasn't putting up much resistance but I trust them more to force a punt than to recover an onside kick.

Still have a tough schedule ahead but I'm confident/hoping we can snag that 2nd WC spot. Just need to keep pace with the Vikings. And finishing 3rd in the division would give us a more favorable schedule next season.

Last thought, pay Cousins. I'm a believer. Sure he needs to get better in the redzone and with off schedule plays but throwing 300-400 yards week in, week out is special. You don't let that walk away.

9 years ago today.

RIP ST21.

Man...it still stings :smh:

RIP

Speaking of safeties...this needs to be a priority for the '17 draft. That, and ILB.

Offense is straight...other than that, there are some serious questions.

I don't think I can handle watching Will Compton start for much longer. He's a solid backup, but that's it.

I pray we draft Jarrad Davis out of Florida.

Also, I like this Maurice Harris guy. Hopefully Ryan Grant is gone next year.

If we can get a competent safety and ILB...look out.

Hope I don't jinx it, but Maurice Harris' hands are great. Just look at how he brings the ball in when making a reception.

Skins going to have to make a tough call on the contracts of DJax and Garcon. At first, I was adamant about keeping DJax and letting Garcon walk, but now...I'm not so sure.

Pierre, IMO, can be something like Anquan Boldin to this team (if he's not already.) I think he can still have role here as a #2/#3 WR. This is if Doctson steps in next year to be a #2 WR...I think Crowder can be a variant AB. He's legit. Been saying this since he was drafted that he's special. He's showing it this year and might make the PB as a specialist.

Gonna need the defense to step up big time.

Can't let Johnson run out the clock.

Defense was KILLING the team yesterday. I now understand Gruden's onside kick decision vs. the Cowboys. He's just got no faith in them to get a stop.

I honestly don't even think it's Barry's scheme at times. There just isn't enough speed/athleticism in key positions. Guys like Compton/Foster should be depth. Whitner, Ihenacho, etc. shouldn't even be on the field. Trial by fire for guys like Fuller.

As I mentioned in another thread...the offense is straight. Top priority this offseason needs to be getting better on defense. No reason for this team to be able to put up around 25+ points every week and have 5 losses.

ILB/S need to be the focus...Reuben Foster should be our guy. Scot has 9 picks in the '17 draft...make 'em count. Defense heavy, pls.

Good win yesterday...I'm actually shocked that the Skins got out of Philly w/ the W. Only had the ball for 22 minutes. Eagles were copying their game plan that they used vs. the Falcons.

I'm still VERY concerned about our ILBs. Compton is gonna be on the shelf for a minute and Foster isn't that good either. Makes a bad situation worse unless a guy like Speight can come in and be an upgrade.

ILB HAS to be the direction the team is going in the 1st round of the draft.

Also, how about Deshazor Everett? Dude was out of his mind yesterday. I'm glad some of the personal fouls didn't come back to bite the skins in the behind, but I like that aggressiveness. Not to mention the clutch INT.

Funny comment from Moose yesterday...talking about the Skins benched the wrong DB with breeland out there looking like BBQ chicken. I never would have thought this guy would have fallen off so far after a fantastic 2015. Not sure what's going on with him, but he's a liability.

Happy we'll get a chance to see what Speight has, would be nice if he can show something.

Offense is still good enough to win games even when they're a bit off. Jordan Reed doesn't look right out there, hopefully he doesn't hurt his shoulder more.

Breeland has turned into a bum. What's worse is that he still walks around acting like his **** doesn't stink :smh: I've been reading a lot of insiders saying Barry isn't even using our corners correctly. Saying Fuller/Dunbar can't play slot corner but they keep getting forced to. I'd like to see Barry gone after the season.

I don't like our playoff chances anymore after that Giants win last night. However, I will take another winning season if we can manage to do that.

Also, what the hell is wrong with Dustin Hopkins? I thought the kicker carousel was finally over :smh:

Yea...Barry has to go, regardless if this team wins out.

I hope Todd Bowles is fired by the Jets. He'd be a good candidate to bring in for the (hopefully) vacant DC position.

Also, folks like to hate on him...but how good has Josh Norman been? Dude gonna be fired up next Monday.

A majority of the Norman scrutiny is unwarranted. He's a good corner, one of the best. I see him more as a playmaker than a shutdown corner which is the most you can ask for in today's NFL. But damn the rest of the D is trash...

Norman, Kerrigan, Murphy, Cravens, and Baker are the only guys playing like they want to be in DC next year.

Outside of Norman, Kerrigan, and Chris Baker the defense is pretty Damon bad.

Trent Murphy has stepped up though this year. Pretty disappointed in Preston Smith so far.

I'm still blown that Barry made no adjustments all game when the TEs were eating in the middle of the field.

It sucks having to root for the Cowboys  gonna have to do it again this week.

Let's see if they can win another prime time game.

Cowboys beat the Bucs. Skins control their own destiny now. Gonna be a tough game tonight. Not really concerned about Cam throwing the ball, but he's gonna run all over the defense. Hopefully the offense can keep it up.

What a pathetic effort. Team lacks a pair of balls. They don't deserve the playoffs.

This is why having a terrible defense comes back to hurt you. The team can't expect the offense to put up 25+ every week. At some point, the defense HAS to help out. I honestly can't remember the last INT that the team made. Might have been PReston Smith like a month or so back. I'm sick of Joe Barry. Just really sick of him. There will be no shortage of GOOD DC coaching candidates to hit the market in a few weeks. Just gotta be patient and make the right/smart hire.

I can't stand Barry either, but he might have only 3-5 above average players on defense.

These guys made Stewart look like AP in his prime. Numerous opportunities to stop him in the backfield last night and they only did it once.

Cut Donte Whitner.

Its simply the perfect storm on defense from personnel to coaching. But we certainly need better players.

Too many dropped passes. Far from Kirk's best game. I still think he becomes the highest paid player in the offseason no matter what but this is a game you win to shut the doubters up.
