NT,

I start classes on May 17th. Currently paying all bills, child support and working OT on airplanes on an Air Force base.
I'm on academic probation for withdrawing 2 years ago. I can't go through the school to get a direct loan and I can't pay for school out of pocket like I want to.

What are the best alternative student loans I should apply?

Need more info. There are a lot of places that seem to offer student loans nowadays (type in review student loan to Google). You should be okay since you are working.

Though in my opinion you don't necessarily need a student loan depending on how much income you have. You could easily put it all on a 0% APR credit card. My guess is 2 years of school left is 4-6 semesters x 5000 per semester = 25k.

you can't be on academic probation for just withdrawing two years ago

your grades had to be really bad for at least a year to the point an appeal couldn't be approved

Wait, how are you on academic probation for withdrawing?

...

There's def more to that story, there's probably a history of withdraws and bad grades over a year at least

He's referring to what's called SAP (satisfactory academic progress) which is what you need to maintain to keep your financial aid

If you're over 24 years of age, you can apply for student loans as an independent through FAFSA (If you're not on probation). FAFSA will most likely give you a grant (Pell) for a couple grand if you're still doing undergrad.

If you're in the military, they should be paying for your school.

Appreciate this.

Yep exactly. I was more surprised when the financial aid office told me.

Don't go to Sallie Mae, and if you do, only for something small.

I only ever took a grand out from Sallie Mae, paid it a year later.

Still in school, but on track to pay my 18k in loans off this year before I graduate.

Do what you gotta do brethren.

UPDATE.

Financial aid backtracked and awarded me the pell grant. They claimed the error on the computer. Appreciate all of the help NT.
