Rant about Kobe's Adidas shoes

Before I rant I just wanted to say Kobe is my favorite player of all time. Now that I got that out of the way I want to question fans on why are Adidas Kobe retros suddenly flying off the shelves and on websites like baitme.com when he retired? He just had one of the worst seasons of all and no one even cared all that much about his former signature shoe line. The fact that he retired now makes the shoes extra special? Jordan been out of the game for a minute but when he retired, there was no hype, everything stayed the same. His sneakers were still $150+. Nothing new there. Someone aware me.
