Question to all you OG's

I never had the hot stuff back then, but being on NT for nearly a decade has increased my fashion sense and knowledge for the game in general.

With that said, now I'm older and with a stable job, and able to purchase a lot of the things I couldn't back then. The most I paid for was gammas because I felt like rewarding myself, and the next prob Chicagos. Other than that most of the pairs I have are the not too sought after kicks I got for near retail or under. I find it easy to pass when resell prices are 400+

33 yrs old here

I'm not going through any hoops to buy shoes. I just don't have time to camp out, stand online, wait for midnight with multiple web enabled devices, etc.

I have other interests now, sneakers is like a distant 2nd or 3rd. But if it was still my number 1, i'd probably still be buying and selling on a regular basis.

The only shoe I have multiples of are Air Max 90 infrareds, because there was a brief period a few years ago when I didn't have any and it made me sad.

When I realized that most of my sneakers just sit in thier boxes for years at a time I realized that the hobby just isnt worth it anymore.
And even at that point I would still get sucked in with shoes I ve always wanted coming back out.

But as soon as bots and raffles hit the scene I was pretty much done.
If I could get em I would if not oh well.

And now I dont even look to see whats coming out. I rather build my business with that money.
Its time to upgrade and start collecting something else. Like cars, and houses.

I don't go out nearly as much as I use to so I don't get the opportunities to wear a lot of different kicks. Im not into buying shoes to keep on ice either so that would be pointless. After saving up for a car it didn't make sense for me to be spending thousands on sneakers anymore. That said, there are a ton of GRs nowadays that are really dope to where you really don't need to seek out the really exclusive stuff to get something dope.

Last year, probably was the most I spent on shoes in the last 10 years.

Bought some older SBs and Js and found alot of SBs at my parent's house. That being said, I have a lot of shoes again and it's time to let them go.

I can't get back into the habit I was in before. Waiting in line for the next hottest release. It was fun before, but now, priorities have changed.

And like what some of you said, a lot of the shoes are sitting in their boxes.

I've only worn the 72-10's once. Smh.

I know what you mean, I love Sb's always have (mostly the older ones)

But I almost pulled the trigger on the Dela highs and the Brian Anderson's -two of my faves, but when I asked my self how many times a year I would wear them, I couldn't think of more than 3-4 times so I couldn't justify the price. The color schemes just don't align with my current clothing.

This thread comes up once a year and I aways contribute so why stop now?

I am down to literally 6 sneakers now.
WC4
BRED, 6,1,4
CP Achilles
CDG Chucks

As far as sneakers in general, I love them man, that will never stop. I have been eyeing Royal 1's and when I can get a pair for 500 I will pull the trigger for sure. I also find that wearing sneakers on the weekend > ****, I even wear CP's to nice restaurants. Point is, if you appreciate sneakers it doesn't mean you are immature, your appreciation alters over time, and my collection has gotten smaller, but worth more. I also never double up, makes me appreciate and WEAR my sneakers that I have, I would never buy a 500 pair of sneakers when I was first getting into shoes, but once your taste sharpens, income rises and your collection shrinks, having those 5-10 sneakers you love outweighs the closet full of sneakers you never wear and H&M clothing to go with it. I'd rather buy a 300$ pair of jeans, than some brons but hey does that make me better than the next man? Just different obsessions I suppose.

Perfect post.

I'm not an og, been buying since the first blk red 11 retroed in '01 though. I still buy expensive shoes. I said I'd stop when I bought two of the cdp 11/12 packs, that last till the space jams released. Then the concord a released. At that point I said there ain't no point in saying I'm going to stop when I know I won't keep my word.

I try to limit my purchases though. I never pay over retail, as I don't support resellers... I'll buy from a reseller if it's under retail though (unless I know they just cleaned out that stuff from an outlet).

I just recently stopped buying shoes a few months ago

I find it funny everybody claims they never paid retail blah blah blah

nikes profits say otherwise

but it's extremely more relaxed when you not worried bout checking out before a teenager or reseller for some shoes that'll come out again next year

happy to join the club

Haven't bought j's since the Concords (around Christmas 2011 I think) but I still have a bunch of em sitting in my closet. I sold off a good amount before moving to LA but I still need to get rid of all of em except for 5.

However, now I have a bunch of Nike runners and trainers but I use those all the time for running and working out and my job thankfully allows me to wear em. Usually I get those on a discount though and wear em out in a year and then just donate them.

I stopped for awhile but started back again only getting the pairs I wanted when my funds were low.

there are so many more people buying shoes nowadays but they're all chasing the same pairs come release day. i like shoes and there are tons to choose from on clearance or with discount codes etc. it's rare that i ask a friend or a shop to hold me a pair.

on the flipside, any shoe that i have that has garnered some type of hype in the past few years and is worth good money, i usually will sell. case in point were the htm flyknits that i bought from yahoo japan for $400. i thought that was kinda stupid but years later, i sold them for around $1500. money went to providing for my son. no sense sitting on money for nothing.

My current passion lies in high fidelity audio. I just bought 36 passive woofers at $186 a piece. It's part of this cabinet I'm building. What are sneakers lol

After 16 years of collecting I only wear some Nike's like my 83 pegasus, Cortez, and some Air Maxes. I've been rocking Asics pretty much everyday now for my casual outfits. I've grown out of collecting shoes. Age and a buisness class helped me realize what Nike was doing as far as creating a product and limiting production thus creating hype and forcing kids to camp outside of stores for it. I consider anyone who falls into their trap to young to realize what is really important in life. While I haven't completely figured out life I can promise you it's not collecting shoes.

I still buy shoes but not as often. Maybe 5 pairs a year the most 10. I'm selling shoes once I buy new shoes so it evens out

sure do. i honestly enjoy them. i work part time for them here and there so i rarely pay retail which makes it easier to afford

Nope.

Only if its a pair I really want, and I never had before, and it serves a purpose for me, I will.

I tried buying sneakers again, I bought the Columbia XIs and they felt so bad, never want to waste $ on retros again.

On the other hand, needed b ball shoes and bought currys

It's refreshing to see some sense here! I collected hardcore over 10 years ago and just now decided to log back in and see how things have changed here in NT, I too never spent any money on sneakers/gear that I didn't make reselling sneakers and I really don't have time to do the same thing (buy 2-5 pairs of every release and sell the extra so I can keep my pair for free) but am curious to see what kinda sneakers companies are putting out now.

Vans has been a life saver for me, they have allowed me to keep lots of valuable sneakers DS (orange, pink and silver box SBs) and are far more comfortable than my Jordans which I ended up selling on that basis alone.

Do you guys still purchase expensive sneakers (J's, Kobe's, Lebrons etc.)? About a month ago I was itching for some sport blue VI's because I haven't owned any J's in a while but then I stopped myself. I thought I really wanted them badly but then I came to realize it was just a big waste of money. I know how everyone says the shoe is only worth how much you're willing to pay for it. Well **** that I ain't paying $170 for some sneakers that are massed produced in a sweatshop with no quality control, and at the same time putting $$$$ in MJ's pockets.

Gone are the days where I throw my money away like it grows on trees. To top it all off know one cares what you got on your feet, only you. The reason why I brought this up is because I'm trying to stop my spending on useless **** I don't need. A pair of $40-$50 Nikes and a nice pair of boots will do just fine. I don't see how people be dropping $1k on some Yeezy boosts :smh: . Just cringing just thinking about it.

No.

Retail or bust for me. Resell prices aren't an option, and paying retail is even frowned upon to an extent. There are so many shoes releasing that if you're patient you're almost guaranteed to score them for less than MSRP. Only shoes I've paid retail for recently were the Concepts NB 997 that dropped 2 weeks ago and it hurt my soul to pay $240.

I'm older with different responsibilities and obligations so of course I don't buy sneakers like I did when I was young, single and childless. Maybe 1 pair a month--sometimes 2 if I find a good deal. Even at that rate I find myself with more pairs than I probably need. But I like sneakers and that'll never change, so whatever. I have 2 feet everyday I wake up so I'll always throw on some sneakers when possible.

If Calvin Johnson didn't get a shoe line I would have been totally out of the game for the last 7 years.

I had a plug for the Js and I still wouldn't even pay the slightly discounted price.

bruh, it's like looking at the man in the mirror.

Furthermore, you get to a point where your style changes. I look at the newest Lebrons and while i think it can be an attractive shoe, it just doesn't suit me.

I don't think it reasonable to have 30 or 40+ pairs of shoes anymore.

There are only a handful of pairs I don't own that would make me consider shelling out the dough, but I'll wince like a mofo if I do.

If you really an og u should plenty of heat by now tbh.

With that said. The first thing a woman looks at on a man is his shoes.

I never really spent that much. Most I ever spent was 300 back in 2010 on some db3s. I was big on mikes and sb dunks back in the day. Im a fan of Nike running shoes rn

Man. December 2010 I grabbed cool grey 11s db3s altitude 13s a some more heat....really wish I was still getting guap like that

After high school it became the equivalent of collecting pokemon cards or action figures. Not only a childish hobby but also pretty idiotic given their price/value. Though I won't knock that resale hustle some folks do successfully.
