Question to all you OG's

I just buy non hyped retros..Air Max, bball retros ect.

I just cant bring myself to pay these new marked up prices. I know better.

I really want those Oly foambs, but $250?!? Come on man. I cant..

After high school it became the equivalent of collecting pokemon cards or action figures. Not only a childish hobby but also pretty idiotic given their price/value. Though I won't knock that resale hustle some folks do successfully.

Not to pick or hate on you, but it's this mentality that messed up buying shoes and contributes to the current state of kicks. For some, it's not a fad or phase.

I never considered it collecting.

I just have a big *** rotation.

Not one pair of my sneakers is ds.

I don't think it's fair to label a person who collects sneakers as 'childish'. It's simply a hobby that some love and some don't as much.

If it were classified as 'childish' then my hobby interest in toys, comic books, and video games makes me one big ***** kid lol

I don't look at collecting as childish but everyone is childish bout something

I like radio control cars and go karts, I consider that my more child like moments

I also never considered myself a collector. I just like sneakers.

So if I like a sneaker, I'll buy the sneaker.

I love IV's so I bought White/Cement IV's.

But I hadn't bought a pair of Jordan's before that in ages. Mostly Frees for the gym, Lunars to run type ****.

There's a difference between "free" and "of no cost to you". If you buy shoes to resell and keep a pair for yourself, that's not free. Nike still profits off of that.

i only buy 2-3 pairs a year now.. sometimes just one.... i have a few pair of foams i havent even touched yet... will buy a pair of NB i seen the other day for like 90 and will rock throw those into the rotation. i work in IT so my gear can switch from preppy to casual daily... i can go weeks without putting on a pair of sneakers then go a week with putting on pairs i havent worn in ages.. i dont really care about price though... my favorite shoes are usually cheap stuff i find bargains on that i run into the ground

When I was in school I read a book called Jean Baudrillard - A System of Objects. After that I've pretty much stopped collecting anything.

Hadn't bought a pair since the XI's first hit, didn't even pay attention to shoes until I walked into FNL and saw the Aqua VIII's this past Christmas, which opened the nostalgia floodgates.  Ended up doubling up on those, and tracking down the pairs I had as a kid or wanted, but never got.  Ended up with the Aquas, Infrared, Carmine and Maroon VI's, and the 72-10s.  Topped it off with 2 pair of Chicago 1.5's (not spending the money for the 1s) simply because I love the colorway and they're comfortable as hell, plus I like that they're an odd footnote in Jordan history.

Can't see myself buying anything else, as I'm not a sneakerhead, simply someone who loves the memories those particular shoes bring back to me.

I get new Lebrons but not retro Jordans. I prefer to have the newest and latest shoe tech.

Also agree with that, there's so much variety out there and people still stick to the old stuff. Not a lot of people like the KD Viii's but I'm feeling them. Can wear it casually.

Agreed.
I wear all my sneakers even if only once every blue moon.

But even if that was considered collecting, that's still infinitely better than buying the shoes, taking pictures of yourself wearing them once to flex for the Gram,
and then reselling them for over retail.

When that type of stuff start happening I was like

even in my younger days, i never bought shoes to collect dust. everything i purchased was for wearing purposes only

When I was working for FTL/FA, I would buy 2-3 pair of shoes a week. I can't remember the last pair of shoes I've purchased from a retailer. I know I'm going to buy some Space Jams and Cement 3's soon though.

The gray market ruined my caring for sneakers really.

It's an expensive habit. You either can afford to do it responsibly or you can't.

30 year old here. Never really considered myself a collector. I just like shoes. I'm fortunate enough to be able to pretty much buy what I want, but now I feel the older I get the tighter I get with my wallet. I mean I have a pair of wh/Cmt ivs that are still dead stock, once worn 72-10s and countless other shoes that I probably haven't worn in a year or two.

Mainly wear Jordan 1s or fly knits on the weekends. Playoff 12, tb 3, maybe SJ are on my next to buy list.

I've been Ebay shooing lately for shoes to play basketball in because I refuse to pay 200 for a pair of shoes to hoop in. I bought about 3 pair of Kobe Xs slightly used for under 80 bucks. Those should last me at least 2 years.

The Nike outlet is now where I hunt for kicks especially when they have the 20% off the hash wall

I love kicks and I will never stop buying them, just more selective on what I spend my money on.

Those days are long gone for me as well.

Been here since 07 so j guess that's OG status at this point yeah?
Anyways , THEE ONLY THING I would want to spend my money on is OVO 10s. That's it. Keep everything else.

The only difference for me is consistency and style.

The love is still the same.

I dont buy sneakers at the same rate i did 10 years ago
And i dont buy the same "type" of sneakers i did 10 years ago

But i buy sneakers more than the average cat.

I promise u that

^ Co-sign everything sckid has said in this thread. Sums up where I'm at perfectly.

I'll never understand dudes who just stop caring about shoes. Can't ever see a point in time where I don't give a damn what I'm wearing on my feet.
