Groupon has a refurb Dyson Ball DC40 for $200 although I see them cheaper on Craigsliist. My Hoover just stirs up the dust and shoots in the air making more of a mess at this point. Are the robot ones worth it?

A wet and dry vac is good but a Dyson will pick up a lot more if you have carpet.
I wouldn't buy refurbished though.
Check out Costco or slickdeals. They usually have 'em for just a little bit more than refurbished.

Thinking about getting a Dyson as well. The hoover I have works well, but the handles and levers all snapped on me because of cheap plastic.

i have a shark great vacuum been debating on the roomba aswell but the wife is not sold on the robot doing the cleaning. She swears she will still have to go behind it and clean the spots it missed which defeats the price and purpose for her
i think dyson may be a great vacuum but i swear half that price has to be the name and R&D. There are better and cheaper vacuums than the dyson.

Yea all these new Sharks claim to have more suction and never lose suction too, but not supported by any objective findings I could find. Suction is measured in suction watts and Dysons are 240-280. Also, even if it did as good of a job the first 2 or 3 x, I am worried it will begin to (not) suck over time, while we had a Dyson at work over 5 yrs old I would take home on weekends a few times a month and got everything up, even just glided right over the hard floor so I didn't even have to sweep. You're right not buying a refurb, they got the new Big Ball Cynetic for just under $400 and they come with 5 yr warranties

It's cheap, gets the job done, picks up well, and it's a super simple design, so it's very easy to replace parts on your own...it will serve you for years to come. The suction is very good!
If anything, if you have a Costco memberhip, I would try a dyson/shark from there, so at least you can take it back w/o penalty if needing to later
