What Are Your Thoughts/Experiences With Sales Jobs?

I'm currently on the job search and have noticed that many of the entry-level positions for recent college grads with marketing degrees are in sales. I've heard some stories from people and overall sales positions tend to have a negative connotation.

Personally, I would rather pursue other marketing-related fields and feel that I would be a better fit in them. However, I know the job market isn't the best and so you can't be too choosy.

Does the overall job experience vary depending on if you have a "lower-tier" sales job (cold calling/borderline cold calling) versus a "higher-tier" sales job with a reputable company? Is it very high-pressure to meet quotas?  Are there any transferable skills that will benefit your future career path?

Sales, whether inside or outside absolutely requires skills that are transferable, especially if your career path is leading towards marketing.

Personally, I like e-comm/sales. I like dealing with customers and clients virtually as much as possible. Being in the car or on the phone all day just isn't my thing.

That is true, marketing is essentially tied to sales by nature. I more so meant specific technical skills or programs that are used in marketing fields other than sales.

I'm more interested in marketing research/analytics. Are you a marketing major?

I was a CJ major. I took some marketing and macro and micro courses though and have some sales and ecommerce experience.

My wife used to work in the handbag department at Neiman Marcus. Her paychecks were rarely

Sales is a grind. Def not something you can do your whole life/career imo. If your energized and motivated though you can make some good money. I got back into sales the end of last year and pacin around 75k. Its stressful not knowing how much youll make week to week tho. Thank god my wife has a steady career and paycheck. Some two week checks are 2k. Some are like 1200. All depends on luck and how hard im grinding. I wouldnt call myself a good salesman either. Just personable and polite

You can go into sales straight out of HS  keep in mind I'm more referring to car dealerships and other related fields. Even that's a pretty big grind
