Kanye has showed me one thing.... if you call yourself a genius long enough people will start to believe it. I am a Kanye fan but as a writer he lyrics dont come across a man that is a genius or even a well educated person. As a producer he list of beats aren't as long as Timberland, Pharrell, and Swiss.

Kanye has ranted enough to elevate himself while guys like Pharrell who are soft spoken been making songs, beats, clothes, and designing shoes for years aren't proclaimed a genius because he doesn't tell people he is and selects to let his art/work speak for themselves.

I wish for Kanye to get better and hope him the best in the future but I can't rock with all the genius and iconic talk. I will agree he is very influential and I admire his drive because he was deterimind to be successful. But when you look at the artist history there are many people who have done or made more impact than Kanye but are lost in the weeds because they don't self promote themselves.

I mean, you can't assess this ish much better than this. Repped

Producers Better Than Kanye Appreciation Thread? :nerd:

Considering this came out in '97, you gotta think just how ahead of the times Timbaland was when he dropped this banger....beat is INSANE.

my favorite producers:
1) rick rubin
2) dr. dre
3) trent reznor
4) george clinton
5) butch vig

not my personal fave but it's insane nobody mentioned quincy jones. i can see if you're only limiting the choices to hip hop but with regards to kanye, his production goes beyond that realm. MDTF is a fantastic piece of musical work that stands up against the best releases of the decade in all genres. maybe hip hop purists can pick at it but most who enjoy all kinds of music should see how good it is.

Ye been washed since 2010. (08 really)....with a few exceptional songs thrown in here and there. One of the BEST things he did was create his image.

Like Lil Wayne told y'all he was the "best rapper alive"......Kanye told y'all he was so "forward" and a "genius". Part of his appeal for fans (post his first 3 albums) is wanting to be seen as someone THATS forward, fashionable and thoughtful....and enjoys "good music" with "substance"

Kanye around '07 became the digestible, safe version of say....a Common. Not that they are similar in anyway as rappers....but saying you are a fan of Common "says something about you". In hip hop.....and music in general, we sometimes build character assessments on people by the music they listen to. Kanye brought "backpack to Pop".

What I give Kanye the most credit for is being a fashion trendsetter. He got that. As well as being a dope producer.
