'Baby Boxes' new drop off spots for unwanted babies. SMFH

So basically these drop boxes are to avoid being shamed for giving up your baby...

I look at this more as a safer alternative for the baby then just leaving them in a dumpster or abandon building or something.

Now we all wish and hope a kid is born to parents who want them and can support them an all that, but that aint the case.

Seeing that ^ isnt the case, why not have an alternative to get the child a safe home and not neglected and/or dead.

not sure how folks can be against this.

Because many places allow you to drop it off at a hospital or fire house with no consequence so once again why a drop box?

It's just another Safe Haven. Even safer than those routes because a person will be alerted the moment the baby is placed. I've seen stories where the baby dies from the weather since the mother left them in front of a firehouse, other buildings, etc.

 at the dvd rental returns
But better for them to have a safe place than for them to throw the baby away even tho they could just had an abortion in the early stages :rolleyes

it sounds as if youre more concerned about the consequences of the 'mother' than the survival of the baby, is that the case?

When people ask what happened to your baby do you just say you can't find it at the moment?

California has has a similar program on the books for over 15 years now.

IMO, when you have the ability to safely drop off a newborn without repercussions, the whole abortion debate goes out the window. Why end a life when you can surrender them and give them at least a chance at becoming a productive citizen instead of ending your family tree right there?

Just think where we'd be if JUST Steve Jobs had been aborted? Now multiply that by the 1 Million abortions each year and how much better our nation would be if just one of those made a significant difference to society?

1. Because ending an unwanted pregnancy (not life, pregnancy) is often whats best for society as a whole. Just look at the studies that investigate crime rates in relation to abortion laws. Regardless of the burden being lifted from the mother, society must still pay to care and provide for that child.

2. Because a pregnancy can alter a woman's life FOREVER, and women should have the option to end an unwanted pregnancy if they think its whats best for their body and their life.

3. Because having an abortion does not end "your family tree," it simply ends that pregnancy. Many women go on to have children after having an abortion.

For every Steve Jobs that comes about as the result of an unwanted pregnancy, you have a Ted Bundy, an Aileen Wuornos, and a Charles Albright (all products of uwanted pregnancies/adoption.)

I don't like abortions, but the existence of "baby boxes" doesn't make abortion any less necessary or less of a viable option.

Where we are now, as a society, is that teen pregnancies are at a historic low. Like, it's not even close. Increased education, shows like 16 and Pregnant and Teen Mom, etc. have all contributed to a precipitous drop. But yeah, run with the idea that our society is falling apart. We've actually done a hell of a job lowering teen pregnancies.

That being said, you're never going to completely end unwanted pregnancies, so the more resources available to find good homes for unwanted babies, the better. I see nothing wrong with it. I'd rather have the baby dropped off and placed with couples who will likely provide a better life, instead of being raised in an unhealthy environment.

yes it is

I would rather the baby be given to a human person than a safety deposit box

This has to be a joke. So many weirdos that'll wait by the boxes to grab the babies for themselves.

I don't think the people who snatch babies are going to be waiting around fire houses to take a baby from a box under these circumstances

The boxes are equipped with a security system that notifies emergency personnel when a baby is dropped off. Emergency responders can get to the child within minutes.

The box will lead to the baby getting into the hands of a human being that will care for it.
