There's a reason I moved out of state and will probably never move back.  Whole State is a **** show pretty much, outside of East Lansing, and Ann Arbor (The two major college towns).

"Going up North" to visit family

Some of the most boring weekends of my youth spent on those trips.

Sad situation with these teachers, though.  A lot of these them are struggling themselves, and have their own kids to feed.  Just a horrible situation all around.

Idk, Grand Rapids is really nice, too. "Up North" is basically a different state

It's crazy how broke Detroit is, but next door in Oakland county is one of the wealthiest counties in the U.S.

Those pictures. :x
Been living in Oakland County since 06 [emoji]128526[/emoji]. Dps is ****** up tho, I went to detroit public schools from pre k - first semester of 9th grade. Worse school system in the world. 32 kids 12 books had us putting desk together to share em and ****. I can't even defend the city on this one because everyone know how bad it is. Nobody I know own send their kids to dps, they just use other people's address in surrounding cities and send them there.

Like said before years of corruption will do that to a place. Bert. Bert. was spot on about downtown tho. That's about to be the place to be its just the areas around it.
Heard something a while back bout a program where they was trying let students from Detroit go to school in the surrounding counties n vice versa but ppl was blockin it...u know anything about that ?

N also either the state should take over ( if they haven't done so already) or they gotta spilt/close some schools up n come up with some charter schools ...all these thing happened in my city over the last decade n while the school system isn't good it's stable tho

I really don't know much about it. But when I worked downtown I literally heard a board member from another district (I can't remember) say we don't want those bad *** kids ruining our district. So if it was happening people are definitely blocking. Another thing too tho is how will these kids get to the schools. So many of em walk or catch the bus, parents without vehicles idk how they gonna get to the oak parks or southfield schools.

Yea I gotta find details on that , but I heard it on the radio n that's exactly what the ppl blockin was saying...they were worried bout Detroit kids messin up their schools, wouldn't even give em a chance :smh: ...I know they were trying get kids from outside the city to come to the arts school or something since that was supposed to be a good one in the area

Cass n renaissance are still solid schools.

I seen on the local news that the teachers walked out this time due to the DPS folks saying they weren't gonna be able to pay the teachers past June.

I assume this means that the teachers generally get paid throughout the summer as well. (not sure tho) but if that was the case, i would staged a walk out as well.

Ultimately it sucks and ends up falling on the kids, thus F!!!n up that generation even more, but if they sayin they not gonna pay me as agreed upon, im not working either.

Comment made earlier about the state or someone else stepping in and making decisions from the current (basically taking over...) all those people do is take money out of retired folks pensions, thus messing them up as well.

There seems to be no real answer, even throwing money at it from outside sources doesn't help. I mention it as often as i can, but even when well intentioned people step in, and get funding, bureaucracy and other factors get in the way.

short version of what im talking about http://www.businessinsider.com/mark...lion-donation-to-newark-public-schools-2015-9

We got people who are willing to help I just think everyone from who runs the city to the people in charge of DPS are corrupt, if they get money they are doing something funny with it. It doesn't make sense and it's not adding up.

Someone needs to be held accountable. Kids should be in a safe environment when in school and have supplies to learn, a lot of these kids are better off in school for 8 hours than at home.

It's honestly sad

LOL I heard all the rich people who work or go to school in Detroit don't live there. Don't they PAY people to move back in?

Most don't live in downtown but that's about to change, they got some nice *** apartments in the area and rebuilding a ton of apartments and lofts for those with big money.

Like I said downtown Detroit is about to be poppin in the next year or so, never thought I would see it like that this quickly or ever but they went to work and tons of people out of state investing money and know there's money to be made by bringing in retailers and opening up shops. We finally got that Nike town tho :pimp:

I dont think these teachers will ever get paid

The schools have always been crumbling, my old High School(Redford) was finally tore down(after 10 years roughly) and replaced with a Meijer

Detroit has too many things going bad for itself

Far as this school situation, its only going to get worse. Teachers will quit and find jobs elsewhere, more schools will close, families will move to find schools for their kids, DPS loses more state funding and so on etc...

i miss my city and i dont miss it

Downtown is gonna be a area for the rich. Used to be home of all the projects, they tore em all down and are building upper scale apartments and condos off the water. 3 casinos, lions, tigers, Redwing, they just put a 3 floor bww a few years ago, Nike store this summer and other thing they are building. And Dan Gilbert plays a big factor in resurrecting the city also, he bought 50% of those buildings fixed em up and created jobs.

That man knows how to make money

He's got people in Cleveland mad that he's spending money here and making the city great

Detroit I swear I love and hate the city I don't see it getting any better honestly. My elementary school is closed, middle school got shot up (now closed) . My high school is barely hanging on. Corruption and greed ruined the inner city. Southfield and Oak Park high are turning into some raggedy schools slowly but surely. White folks moving out of Southfield and Oak Park left and right.

Yall debating Cleveland and Detroit...

But they're both trash
