Is America ready for a 6-hour workday?

I BS you not, I spend 25% of my time at work working, the other 75% doing whatever I please just to pass the time. It's unnecessary.

Would much rather be home or out and about enjoying my time on this Earth.
After working in an office for a year now, I can say this is accurate for basically everyone here. For a lot of people the work time is even less than 25% of their day.

Been hearing a lot of complaints about this as well from friends/acquaintances who work in an office setting. Especially the ones working in marketing. There's just not enough work to keep them busy for a full 8 hours. One of my close friends always had his daily quota finished in just a few hours. He quit because he couldn't handle the boredom anymore.

Interesting concept, and I will say working at my computer all day I really need a pick me up around 3. Then again that could just be staying up watching late west coast playoff games.

Americans work too much and most of the work day is wasted and unproductive anyway ...im all for a shorter workday and /or making the weekend longer

I'm not one to talk about working a normal job. Hell yea to lesser hours. But its just interesting how our grandfathers weren't complaining about work hours.

Maaaaan whatever, the grind don't stop lol.

Nah I can see this for like a desk job where you are working for a company with tons of other employees and you are just a cog on the wheel but I'm thinking small business owners and entrepreneurs are going to always work around the clock anyway. At least I do. There's ALWAYS work that can be done. And it doesn't have to involve a computer, a desk, or paperwork.

- Preciate it.

Of course not, our grandparents were raised by folks who lived during the great depression. They were happy to do anything that didn't involve communism and starving.

Its a great idea, but I don't see it working in America. A lot of people at my agency are already working 6 hour days (show up an hour late, leave an hour early,) so a shift to a 6 hour day would mean 4 hours for a lot of people. I never understood why everything in government moves so slow until seeing it first hand

I only actually work 4 hrs a day anyway so idc about 8.

just like everyone else, I work 25% during the day and the rest I just chill. Realize how I'm online now? LOL

Btw this reminded me of when I went to Switzerland for my first time to see my uncle who lived there. It was dinner time and everybody started to cook and I said hey lets just go out to a resturant, this was like around 8:30-9pm...he then tells me theres nothing open at this time and I give him the "huh" face until he explained it to me how they work there...interesting but doubt it work in America.

Companies with desk jobs are starting to implement working from home 1-2 days week. I see this happening first.

I gotta say 9-5 mon-fri needs to get dropped...worst work schedule ever man...specially if you in a big city with a crappy rush hour commute, your schedule is more like 8-630pm 5 days a week...Saturday is your only chill day because you spend Sunday thinking about the inevitable Monday

Wife gets to do this, unless there's a meeting or she had to meet with the practitioners for a few hours....kinda jelly, makes my block long walk to the train feel like a mile.

Amen. While my commute isn't bad at all, that depression that sets in on Sundays around 5pm is real :smh:

Working from home on Friday's >>>

Finish everything by 1pm and set that Out of Office message with the quickness

I think I would rather do the 4, 10 hour days and have a 3 day weekend than work 6 hours a day for 5 days a week.

Mane u damn right , sooo old and outdated ...then what's worse is if they factor in the lunch break so your schedule is from 8 to 5, but you really working from 6 to 7 with the wake up and commute times :x ....one of my pet peeves in life is how we still living by some old /wack rules and way of life with certain things

Always thought about this. People (whether companies or employees) don't factor in time you wake up, your commute, nor whatever time it takes you to get back home. That's why convenience is very important to me. I'd rather work closer to home for less money than to have a higher pay rate that gets eaten up by travel time.

And you're stuck in that job cause you barely have the time/energy for a higher education. Have a family? Forget about it. Vicious cycle.
