Is America ready for a 6-hour workday?

I gotta say 9-5 mon-fri needs to get dropped...worst work schedule ever man...specially if you in a big city with a crappy rush hour commute, your schedule is more like 8-630pm 5 days a week...Saturday is your only chill day because you spend Sunday thinking about the inevitable Monday

all of this...

Companies expect you to work more not less.
in America...

It is an interesting concept. Most people fill their day with the work that they have - so more hours doesn't mean more accomplished.

Recently I took a half day every day for a week so I could do some stuff at home - and it was amazing what I got done - I probably did 2/3 of my regular work and I was home by 1:15.

Going to do it again some time because it was a really good break too - felt like time off as I had all afternoon and evening free.
This is true.

Somedays I plan to work half a day and I'm always amazed at how much I actually accomplished in such a short period of time. I essentially work efficiently enough to finish my work in the shorter time.

8 hr work days induce procrastination for me. I work slower and won't finish all my work purposely because I don't want to be staring at the screen for the remaining hrs.

This of course doesn't include the busy days.

I'm not one to talk about working a normal job. Hell yea to lesser hours. But its just interesting how our grandfathers weren't complaining about work hours.
Look up our history.

We did.

It used to be 12 hrs and the cut it down to 10 and now to 8.

Lawmakers said we wouldn't know what to do with our time and we'd become gamblers/alcoholics etc.

Would love this because right now I try to take as much time possible to vacay, rest and travel until I start my own business in the very near future. Something about working under someone is very un-motivating to me so I hate working 8 hours despite loving what I do.

I do the 4 10s now. It's nice but makes it harder for OT.
I used to do this in college working at a call center, was great having 3 days off. Had fri-sun off or wed,sat-sun off.

For OT, I would just come in one day and work a full shift.

I'm in sales and dealing with customers 8 hours a day is soul draining and makes me bitter towards humanity lol.

6 hours would be enough to keep my sales pitch strong with every interaction. Plus 2 hours of the day I'm just waiting for customers to come in anyway.

Wouldn't work in construction.
Not every industry can take the same approach. I think this is more aimed at the bureaucratic office type jobs. Even still construction could use a serious reform in terms of safety standards. The industry complies with the most minimal of guides.

It's basically following the letter of the law rather than the spirit. So much so that this happens:

How is your timekeeping where you're at?
Carpenters implented a new timekeeping system couple years back. Most shop stewards have been given ipads. They report the man hours the same day. You can view your entire crews hours, online. The union has done a great job in this aspect.

You see stuff like this on non Union jobsites. On all the union jobsites I've been too there is a designated safety person that works for the general contractor who walks around to check on people. Also every contractor I've worked for has safety guidelines that you have to follow since it affects their insurance.

I would be SO happy with this
it takes a lot of discipline to stay focused working from home...

I'm remote 2 or 3 days a week (work M-Th, ten hours days) and hate it, however, my dislike and apathy for my coworkers generally keeps me from going to the office...
