White people are victims of their historically compounded moral debts.

Everyday thery walk out of the front door it's probably mental torture knowing the whole world secretly hates you.

I think that's why using the N-word in any shape or form is empowering for them.

Stop with the whining.

How did you get whining out of that? I was making astute social observation.

The words of others rarely offend or incite me, unless it's impeding or affects my life negatively in some way.

I don't suffer from black inferiority, therefore my actions and goals are not shaped by racial judgement from others.

Relax.

I know you're not talking about me when you say "white people". Don't generalize all whites.

Yes i know. Just found it odd that African American is so popular and European American, Asian American and Hispanic American aren't.

What white person doesnt acknowledge their Irish, german, polish, jewish, etc Ethnicity? What Asian doesnt acknowledge their Korean,Indian,Thai, etc ethnicity?

White is a race not ethnicity.
Black is a race not ethnicity.
African is not a race, ethnic group, or nationality it is only used to simplify acknowledgement of someone being born in Continental Africa.

Has the education system failed us this bad?

 :smh: I remember that.

Last time I heard it was in an old movie referring to a group of Asians as Orientals and the other was a joke about "oriental fever".

I've heard older people say it, both black and white.

I always say something when they do, and how the word isn't used anymore. How the only time it's used is for rugs.

Wow.

The term "African American" seems a little much. Americans with Italian, Irish or Swedish backgrounds aren't commonly called European Americans. For some odd reason the term "African American" is looked at as the most polite way to describe a black person with African roots born in America.

We have to ask Jessie Jackson why he thought that label was the best for us

Do you not understand the history of Blacks born in America? italy is one country, african americans genetically are made up of numerous African Ethnicities that make up a majority of their genetic make up Hence the term African American.

An Italian American doesnt have a genetic make up of 4+ European ethnic groups, so what are you talking about?

The term African American is used to acknowledge ones African Orgins while being indigenous to the Americas. If a black person born in America only had Igbo ancestry that person would be Nigerian American, but unfortuanely this thing called the transatlantic slave trade happened thus people of various African Ethnic orgins mixed this creating the current ethnic group we see in America.

Lol Jesus Christ

So what about Charlize Theron? Elon Musk? Candice Swanepoel?

Are they "African-American", assuming they have American citizenship?

Why don't people call them "Africans"?

African-American is a stupid and offensive term for black Americans.

You're thinking way to deep into this. I'm good on the history lesson btw and Jesus has nothing to do with it.

I'm saying i would think black Americans would just want to be called Americans. The term "African American" seems like it's used WAY more than it has to. i understand using it for things involving maybe government and stuff but i'm talking about everyday life.

Just let it go man.

White people arent indigenous those African countries but you can continue to be an idiot if you want.

I think he does know the difference between ethnicity and nationality. He's simply just stating that it's weird how people refer to each other using by different methods. Asian, African American, Hispanic White all are different ways to classify other ethnicities and they're all socially correct in our current society.

You didnt read his post obviously.

All those things you named are not the same. A hispanic can be white or black. An American can be Mexican ethnically.

Technically, everyone's ancestors are indigenous to Africa.

But, for the sake of discussion whites have occupied South Africa as long as blacks have been in North America.

We're talking centuries, like almost 400 years.

Elon Musk, Charlize Theron and Candice Swanpoel are of Afrikaners (Dutch) ancestry born in Africa, not Europe.

That makes them African.

You didn't read my post, I'm not talking about their origin, I'm stating how it's weird how these various classifications of ethnicities are socially accepted even though they're different.

What's so bad about saying "black"?
I don't know, do your research and ask some white friends. I get a sense of people thinking it's degrading because you are referring to someone based on a color that's not accurate at all(Asians being called yellow, native Americans called ********). Doesn't apply for all of course because we obviously call people white all of the time, but it doesn't have a negative stigma like the color black might to some.

"African American" was invented to replace black...(which failed) and black was invented to replace negro..

After awhile da English language is gonna look like a Mitchell & Ness team full of throwback patches, terms, and vernaculars.

Problem is social norms move faster than da more stationary roots of da English language.

Political correctness only exist in English, from what i noticed, cuz Spanish don't retire terms nearly as fast based on da social climate of its people...like when you hear spanish programing, there's a excerted effort to be more "accurate" about language than "sensitive".
