Could you marry a person who had wildly different political views than yourself. Example: let's say you are as far of a leftist liberal as it gets. You like Bernie sanders, and all that entails being a liberal.

The woman you are considering marriage with supports Donald trump, hates gay marriage, hates abortion, just your textbook bill oreilly Fox News watching conservative.

Could you marry this person, or is it a deal breaker. Can a long term relationship last with two people with such extreme differences in moral/ethical makeup?

Nah. I could deal with somebody that's fiscally conservative but often times with their conservative views come racist and bigoted views as well. I'm not even super liberal but I couldn't deal with somebody on the opposite side

I had a friend/ acquaintance in college who was hardcore conservative. She'd be cool every now and then but then she'd start spewing offensive stuff. So unless you plan on never discussing anything remotely political or social I can't see how it'd work

I know what you mean. It just seems like one of those things you can never really get around. Like you can talk about superficial things all you want but eventually you'll have to decide on what you're gonna teach your kids

I don't think I'm ever getting married but my daughter's mother that I live with has different political views than me.  She's a republican that was really against Obama while I voted for Obama.  A lot of other girls I had relationships with in the best were from Orange County and republicans while I've always been liberal

I generally don't discuss politics with anyone, but I'm admittedly not politically well-informed enough.

Depends. If she's a 9 or 10 than I can learn to compromise. However being in a relationship is about manipulation and control so obviously if she's watching FoxNews than it would be easy to change her ideology just by introducing them to how the other side lives life. Most of the time I realize conservatives (and for the most part liberals) just havn't experience life outside of their bubble. Things such as befriending minorities/illegals/homosexuals, or going to the hood, or doing drugs, or learning about different cultures, religion, and various customs are foreign to them.

Currently my girl just follows my lead for whom to vote for.

Depends. I would consider your example to be extreme. Marry someone who supports Donald Trump, hates gay marriage and abortion? Absolutely not. Wouldn't associate myself with someone with such beliefs, much less marry them.
Political extremism in general is a dealbreaker imo, whether it's extreme-left or extreme-right.
As long as we're both open to the positives of both sides and agree on the major dealbreaking issues (lgbt rights, racism, abortion, ...) I wouldn't have a problem with it.

Thank you for your input!!

No. Not with this example you're giving.

I can't really rock with a Trump supporter that believes in everything he has said. That's getting behind racism, white supremacy, bigotry, sexism, stupidity and plain hatred. What Trump is however, is the extreme logical conclusion of what the GOP has become the past decade in what's been decades in the makin.

To me a lot of those issues you mentioned arent political and shouldn't be.

Same goes for the pie in the sky ideals, don't enter my safe space, extreme left "progressives" out there.

So if we we're just talking what a liberal actually is or conservative is sure I can rock with somebody like that but none of that extreme ****.

Fling/short term, why not?
Long term, hell nah.
What would my family say?
Especially when it comes to kids, I'd want my woman to be on the same page with what we brainwash my seed with, can't be two differing sides.

If she was a 9 or a 10, do you think you could entertain the possibility of going into it thinking you could make her change?

Well no. If you have fundemental difference as broad and far reaching as political (which include religion, race, gender and tons of other social issues) that would breed conflict.

But MORE IMPORTANTLY how would their be a united front in raising the children? Lets say you are anti abortion, she isn't what are you teaching your kids about the subject. She think vaccines are the devil, you don't how would that work when the baby is born?

My girl arguing about different views on the world sometimes, but we usually have a general like mind when it comes to certain major issues. Hell my ex wife and I hate each other but we both hate Drumpf and want legalize weed

Different personalities can work in a relationship, but politics are deeper than people think.

No, because I do a lot of research and have too much pride in my knowledge in politics. They don't have to mirror my views, but if theirs are radically different, it would be nonestop debates.

From what I learned in life:

1) you ain't changing core beliefs, look at any ninjahood thread

2) if i can pull a 9/10, I sure as hell could pull a 9/10 with beliefs similar to mine

3) I get into arguments with chicks over petty BS dumb s_ that don't matter, I can only imagine the arguments over real s_ I believe in that she don't & vice versa

Nor do I care for politics.
