I wanted to give everyone currently online a heads up:  NikeTalk will be down for roughly an hour today due to scheduled maintenance.  The outage is expected to last from 1-2 PM EDT (10-11 AM PDT.)

The good news is that the downtime will be used to perform a hardware upgrade, which should ensure that our forums will remain more stable than the average basketball fan throughout the remainder of this year's NBA Playoffs.

Particularly exciting Finals games and have managed to crash the site in years past, but we're all hopeful that the new server will be ready for that, and all the major sneaker releases in the months ahead.

Thanks for your patience!

Thanks for the heads up Meth. Better that than this:
I figured that would come up sooner or later.

The key difference here is that our current platform and service providers have been considerate enough to schedule this with us and give us advance notice.  (That, and the maintenance will actually accomplish something and isn't just masking a catastrophic system failure.  Huddler's wizards can do more than just make a website disappear.)

We know that people visit our forums 24 hours a day, so there's really no "convenient" time to handle it, but we've tried to arrange it so that it's a relatively minor inconvenience.  It's not down during peak hours, when a game is on, or when a major sneaker release is underway.

We're in good hands on this one and I know they'll get us back up and running ASAP.

Hopefully the outage will only last an hour.

Quick question, what's your favorite basketball team?

Good thing I'm going into work late today and won't be on from 1-2  .

Y'all schedule this on the one day I have off this week.....SMH

.... And we're back!

I expected more than two minutes of downtime for a complete database migration, but the team at Huddler/Wikia performed a full two days' worth or prep to optimize the process.   Thanks to their practice and prep, they were able to complete the process today flawlessly.

The site should be substantially more stable now on the new hardware.  You may notice that pages render faster now, too.
The site crashed for like 15 min when the Pirate Black Yeezy's dropped in Feb.

Yes, "megathreads" with 1,000+ pages and tons of simultaneous active posters are the worst case scenario for any such system.  We now try to split threads up before they can reach that size as a preventive measure.  (Establishing new threads for the NBA playoffs/finals, separating Yeezy threads by year, etc.)

The system should be far better poised to handle those, but we'll continue to take those precautions just to minimize the chances of any unscheduled downtime.
Cool cool so everything should be good for the OKC vs Cavs game.

Yeah, we're not anticipating any problems this fall.

Thanks, everyone, for your patience - and a huge thanks to the team at Huddler and Wikia for the best damned maintenance operation ever.
