NT's Hottest MCs in the Game

The early 2000s thread had me reminiscing about the 2000s period, which made me remember how much I enjoyed MTV's Hottest MCs in the Game list. Sway and the Brain Trust would take a group of rappers and narrow it down to 10. After that they would rank them from 10-1. Figured the music forum could have its own version. Here is how the rappers are graded.
  • Lyrical ability and flow
  • Commercial success
  • Cultural impact
  • Social media following
To be eligible the rapper has to have dropped some music within the last year. After coming to a decision on who the 10 rappers are, we can then discuss who 10 and 9 are. Once that is done, we then put it to a vote. We keep doing that until we find out who NT thinks is the hottest in the game.

Included the obvious names below to help.

Lil Uzi Vert

Young Thug

Meek Mill

Desiigner

J.Cole

Kendrick Lamar

Drake

Future

Kanye West

Travis Scott

Fetty Wap

Kodak Black

Kevin Gates

Yo Gotti

Young Dolph

Big Sean

Chance The Rapper

French Montana

Pusha T

After the first 2 comments I don't think we are all on the same page when it comes to the definition of MC. Change the name to the most popular artist or hottest artist in the game. If we talking MC there's no way Kendrick isn't number 1, I'm pretty sure the majority would agree.

Dave East is nice from what I heard.

Why isn't Drake a rapper? Is it because he sings? Or the reference tracks?

Duke can spit when he wants to, that much is clear to me.

How we call him the nicest mc when he raps 40% of the time? Over dudes that rap 100% of the time nah. Then of course the references as a part but I'm not even touching on that. I just can't say o him over then name a dude that strictly raps. Dave east cool but he got some ways to go, I'm rooting for son tho.

Dave East not even the best newer rapper in NY. Conway :nthat:

Once he get over more hype production & gets some bigger names around him. He gon get big

Action Bronson
Joey Bad ***
Vince Staples
Travis Scott
The Game
Cormega
Future
Meek Mill
Drake
J Cole
Ye
Ross
Minaj
Royce
Fabolous
Young Thug
Styles
Fat Joe
Jadakiss

If Cam passes 40% and runs 60% of the time in a game is the qb he is playing against better because he attempted a pass every time he dropped back? Can't discredit his rapping because he also sings. Even if I did discredit him for singing the lowest he would fall for me is 4.

My ten names are

Future
Meek Mill
Kanye West
Kendrick Lamar
Young Thug
Drake
Desiigner
Kodak Black
J. Cole

Last spot would be between Travis Scott and Big Sean.

Again these ain't who I think are the ten nicest on the mic even though that does play a part.

If I shot 5 free throws and made all 5 but u shot 50 and made 40 am I the better free throw shooter?

Hottest MC and most popular rapper are two different things.

From the names being thrown around here, I have no business in here.

Drake has a team of writers and is stealing from mad people. Plus his album is a mix of Rihanna and Katy Perry. It's not a rap album, it's pop. He's definitely not an MC. Most people don't consider him a rapper but white people.

I'm a check out Conway because I **** with Dave East hard.

Conway tough. Him & Westside Gunn make such a great duo. My fav duo in hip hop right now

Were they all net? But for real I think people don't listen to his bars. He sings and on top of that they don't like his image so they dismiss the times he raps.

Hottest MC is what MTV called it. I remember people being upset because Future was on the list one year [emoji]128064[/emoji]

Hottest MC's like the list they used to do on MTV? Speaking strictly as "hot"...it goes..

I'd have it as:

1. Drake
2. Future
3. J Cole
4. Kendrick Lamar
5. Big Sean
6. Young Thug
7. Fetty Wap
8. Nicki Minaj
9. Yo Gotti
10. Kevin Gates

Strictly speaking hot, this would be the exact list, minus Nicki Minaj, unless she's on a Taylor Swift or Katy Perry Top 40 single I'm not paying attention to

J Cole hasn't dropped anything recently except for the Black Friday joint. Kendrick dropped TPAB and Untilted within the last year. TPAB really took him to another level. I would even think about having him over Future.

Nicki pretty cold out here musically. Anaconda was her jumping the shark.

Cole went plat and had a crazy successful tour in 2015. That has to be taken into account. Whenever he drops....it's going to be huge. Dude had a dominant 2015. It was just real low key.

Future has to have that #2 spot. The 3peat, Ds2, WATTBA, Purple Reign & EVOL. 3 #1 albums in a 7 month period....and his influence is crazy. Crazy successful tours, with a huge one coming up. And Whole industry trying to jack his sound. See panda .

And I was hesitant to include Nicki. Her star presence is huge though....and the pink print tour was successful. But she hasn't really dropped anything since 2014 with the exception of the "DM remix". After thinking about it....id go:

1. Drake
2. Future
3. J Cole
4. Kendrick Lamar
5. Big Sean
6. Fetty Wap
7. Young Thug
8. Yo Gotti
9. Travis Scott :smh:
10. Kevin Gates

All i see is Hottest Artists right now...

Thug and Future are the only artist from ATL.....

^It is pretty funny that basically every coast/region is represented on that list based on where they are from, but not actual sound

Replace Fetty with Kanye & replace Nicki with Uzi and that would seem more correct cuz idk anyone besides clubs still playing Fetty. Kanye shut down the game when he was releasing his album. Ish was wild for a bit lol
