Jadakiss, Styles P, 50 Cent, Camron must be "hot" to you. Saying Fab is "hot" in 2016 is like saying KRS was hot in 2001.

This ain't 2003 fam. Your time as "hot" can pass you regardless of the quality of your music.
 
Here we go with the NT extremes.. Fab is not in the same category as those guys you named for this discussion in 2016. Fab just dropped two of the hotter, better tapes of last year in Summertime Shootout and Friday Night Freestyles. Just recently dropped a decent tape in Mamba. Always killing features. If he finally decides to drop that studio album he's liable to sell at least 60k out the gate. So how is he not "hot?" Some of you dudes name these trash rappers whose bubbling in the streets or in your circle from a mainstream POV no one knows. So I'll say again if we're following op's criteria I feel he's in the conversation.

I listen to all the Soul Tapes on a regular but Fab is not poppin like that no more.

Fabulous should not at all be on there, even though I've been playing "Ball Drop" as if it came out yesterday.
 
Rick Ross low key put out some of the best mixtapes/albums last year....but his time as being a hot mc has passed him.

There are like 5 tiers of the "relevant" rap world.

1. The Luminaries: Jay Z, Nas, Eminem, Kanye...maybe Lil Wayne to an extent.

These are the highly established stars that don't need to be hot to make a huge impact. They're always looming...and when they do decide to drop...it will be big and impactful. Good or bad. These type of artist generally should be disqualified from the "hot" conversation. They've surpassed that.

2. Hottest Rappers: Drake, Future, Kendrick, Cole, Big Sean.

These are the most anticipated, played, toured and popular rappers. They have the collective attention of both hip hop, and mainstream fans. Their impact is seen constantly on social media, streamed, heard on radio, watched on tv, played in clubs, and placed on charts. These guys headline major tours on their own. Their albums sell well, and generally recieve positive reviews.

3. Hot: The bottom half of the list. Young Thug, Fetty Wap, Yo Gotti, Kevin Gates, Meek, Travis Scott...hell, even Rae Sremmurd.

These artists consistently put out records that catch the attention of the hip hop fan base as a whole. They have established fanbases, social media presence...and a big record or two in rotation. These are like the "career year" guys. What they do in that year can determine if they are hot or not.

4. Bubbling: Young Dolph, Lil Uzi, Desiigner, Kodak Black, Chance the Rapper.

These type of artist are the ones who have new big records, growing fanbases, social media presence....but don't have the body of work, nor notoriety to be truly hot. They lack album sales and multiple charting. They are known more in their niche, and typically online.

5. Known Consistent: Fab, Ross, Jeezy, Tip etc.

These are the artist that once were hot, but their time passed them. They can still sell 50k to 60k first week due to a strong core fanbase. But the larger audience has moved on, and doesn't care to really check for their sound.

Based on that tier system, Drake should in that first one. The gap between him and the rest of the ppl in that tier 2 group is pretty significant.
 
I don't like how older artists get put on the back burner when it comes to these so called "lists"

Keep it a buck we got Future on this list not because of his studio releases Pluto,Honest ,DS2 and Evol.

Its because of his mixtapes in between albums.

So if Fab or whoever is still putting great material how can it not be considered relevant? Or "hot"

Just because it's not popping on ITunes or whatever mainstream platform people deem credible these days.

Fab cooking up a Freddy and Jason mixtape with Jada and his new album.

But some how we all focused on Drakes latest brick and try to add him to a list. Dude wave rode Future and stole half of Quentin and PNDs album last year and dude still flourishing on lists. Smh. No knock on Drake he's very talented, but dude got exposed and that dropped him down even further with Views

All that may be true...and the fact still remains that Drake is the biggest rapper in the world.

Maybe we have different definitions of what "hot" means. I take that mean who has the most traction. Who's making the most noise.

Under no circumstances does Fab fall under any of those. Y'all are letting personal opinions of artists influence the answers to op's question.
 
This era is so watered down, and lacks any semblance of diversity. Dudes have to scramble to find proper suitors.

I mean, "hot" SHOULD include actual skill, plus material. Drake, J.Cole, Kendrick are the hottest. I am not a big Drake fan (I am a big J.Cole/Kendrick fan). But, those are the only 3 who deserve attention. All 3 have been going strong for 5+ years.
