OFFICIAL 2016 @MiamiHEAT SEASON THREAD::::

Sad that this is happening to such a stand up guy like Chris Bosh. You'd think with all the medical advancements and money available to these athletes, that these things could be defeated. :frown:

Dragic | Richardson | TJ | Weber

Wade | Green

Joe | Winslow | Wright |

Deng | McRoberts | Haslem | *Bosh |

Whiteside | STAT

Must go: McRoberts, STAT, Green, Haslem retirement (probably won't happen)

We have a solid young core in Richardson, Winslow, and Whiteside. We should look to cultivate that talent by giving them more time next season and less for the old guys. They should regularly average 25+ minutes a game, all tree of 'em. I don't want to even think about Bosh's situation...let's just block out this soon to be bad memory.

Miami fans seem to have unrealistic expectations when it comes to this team post LeBron era.

The team just pushed the #2 seed (with 2 all-star caliber guards) to the brink of elimination with two rookies, an aging Joe Johnson, aging Wade, no Whiteside, no Bosh..... yet the coach deserves to be fired.

giphy.gif

Seriously man, this team maximized their opportunities and rose to every occasion and had a great season. The Spurs just got eliminated by OKC after having one of the best seasons ever.... should coach Pop be fired??? Hell no. Sometimes things just don't work out. You can't be a Championship team every single year.

As for the off season, I think Wade and Whiteside are top priorities. Everything else will kind of take care of itself from there. Chasing Durant is a bit of a stretch, but if you have a chance go for it. I'm not holding my breath for that one.

And if Bosh isn't able to play next season, that will really hurt, but I'm at the point where I trust what Riley and Andy Elisburg cook up.

Why are so many of yall saying Stat needs to go? He was solid for us in the limited minutes he played. Efficient minutes every time.

I've been saying fire spo for years. It didn't just start. Yes bosh went down, yes Whiteside went down. The team we have is good enough to beat the raps. This last game we just didn't get it done. From halftime on, we played like idiots. There was no plan at all.

My problem is, there never is a plan. There rarely is an adjustment. He's just... there. How many more fruitless years do you guys need to see we've gone as far as we can go with this guy? How many experimental rotations do you need to see? How many losses to inferior teams? How many more short post seasons?

Wade doesn't have much time left. I'd hate to see his last years wasted with spo when I KNOW if we had a better coach wed go further.

People still in here defending Spo hard as **** ?

Now we got people in here posting memes and gifs of how much they love the guy?? Sheesh let it go already!!

To take this team to the next level without a superstar player coach Spo is just another average coach. I'm not to sure if Whiteside respects him that much to resign with the Heat, Bosh looks as if his career might be over, and we're over here talking about an irrelevant head coach who's probably here to stay for years to come??? :smh:

If you like him, congratulations! Much respect to you but damn get off my **** just because I'm not a fan of the guy.

Going back and forth about people who want him gone versus people who want him to stay isn't going to effect Pat Riley's ultimate decision. He's here regardless of me not liking his ***.

I'd rather talk about what pieces are available for this team next season and who we should cut or resign then waste time on this dead end topic of "Coach Spolstra" Damn!!

This is my last time responding to any coach Spolstra talk. tekthemaestro tekthemaestro I suggest you do the same. It is a dead end conversation at this point and it's making this thread look bad.

Of course the Heat had a plan in the 2nd half, the Raptors were just better that night. Like Tyson says, "Everyone has a plan until you get punched in the face." The Heat got punched in the face in the 4th quarter and couldn't recover. The coach will ALWAYS make mistakes, they are only magnified in losses.

At this point nothing Spo can do will ever be enough for fans such as yourself. He's won championships, he's improved young talent, and he's even coached superstars with huge egos to success they have never duplicated on other teams. He's competitive year in and year out and continually gets the best from his players and most importantly he's well respected by his players and peers. But I'll ask you this... Should Gregg Popovich be fired along with Spo?

By your description the Spurs should've gotten rid of Pop years ago and should definitely fire him this off season. The Spurs hadn't won a Championship in 2 years and just like the Heat lost an elimination game on the road in the semi-finals.

I'm just saying...

YouGotThese YouGotThese

Can we do more Spo talk?? Please, it's so entertaining. Seriously, just keep going back and forth.

One man brings out so much hate/love. It's amazing. I don't want to see it end.

Oh and it's Spoelstra. Always forgetting the E

It's really what I live for....

As an initiated member of the Spo defense force, it is my job to make sure Heat fans put some RESPEK on his name. :D

But in all seriousness.... you can't be mad that people will comment on firing the head coach in a post season thread. It's a post season thread, so obviously it will get mentioned.

If multiple people are saying something crazy like the Heat should trade Wade for Matt Barnes fans of the Heat/Wade are gonna comment. It's not that serious folks.

I had two notifications today. One said the heat are scared bosh will never be cleared. The next one said the heat fully expect bosh to play next season. I'm confused.

We all are.

No definitive word yet.... BUT Dan LeBatard, who has ties with the Heat, said the Heat are still hopeful. Who knows :\

Nobodies mad with Amar'e. Don't really care if he returns or not, but if he doesn't wanna' be here than that's cool

I think if we try to make any rounds in FA, that we need another bonafide scorer(Ryan Anderson, Pau Gasol, maybe Mirza, ???)  and cheap solid big man (Jon Leuer, Noah, ???) and maybe a glue guy, but budget won't be sitting pretty (Jared Dudley, ????).

Not much we could do, would be willing to see Joe and Deng go for some other additions with Wade/Whiteside

why would pop be fired, except for being an immense jerk to reporters
laugh.gif
hes successful EVERY year. his system works wonders (unlike ours) he outcoaches nearly everyone in the league (unlike ours) he runs successful plays (unlike ours) he utilizes his ENTIRE team (unlike ours, unless multiple people get hurt) he makes adjustments midgame (unlike ours)

pop is an IDEAL coach. and if pop was running miami we would be in the ECF right now. so why would pop get fired? they fell short... for once. we're the opposite. we haven't seen success since lebron left. (which i called back in 2014 as soon as it was announced)

and you speak like u didnt actually watch the game. u say we got punched in the 4th quarter, as if the 3rd quarter didn't happen. as if in the 3rd we werent suddenly iso'ing on EVERY play. as if our offense wasn't literally either wade/dragic heroics, or joe johnson isoing. meanwhile the raps found their stroke, and instead of calling the timeout we let them hit a good run on us and tried to play catchup ever since 5 minutes into the 3rd quarter. like i said, it happens 90% of the time. we come out of halftime, and get smoked. u telling me u haven't noticed it yet?

AND! i gave spo credit when it was due. the first time he played winslow at center and it threw them off i gave credit. its the MOST creative thing ive ever seen him do. and it worked. then he tried it a 2nd time in game 7, but they had already figured it out by then. and as usual, once we saw they had our number... we stayed the course. no adjustments. just ride it out and hope for the best.

its ok for a coach to make mistakes. but when you're making mistakes at the same rate as claiming successes, there is a problem. i asked this earlier. how many more years of moral victories do u need before u start looking at the captain of the ship? cuz right now, you guys are happy with moral victories. I, am not. our team is TOO good to be satisfied with "at least we made it this far."

wade played out of his mind all postseason (except for game 7) he will NOT have many more showings like this. we need to capitalize sooner than later. we need to make PLAYS. not just tell dragic and wade to blitz the middle then either chuck a shot or kick out. that isn't a play. that is LA fitness basketball. we have a generational talent in whiteside.... and we have 0 offense set for him. ZERO. you're ok with that?

stat is the 3rd most efficient player on the team by the numbers, and he gets the 3rd least burn. youre ok with that? mcroberts has proven for 2 years now that he is a glorified wacky armwaving inflatable tubeman. we keep giving him chances. but ur ok with that? i wont even get into "player development." smh

no no no no and more no. not a single name you listed is good for us. ryan anderson? in 2016? actually... 2017? NOPE! Gasol is 6 minutes from doing a kobe farewell tour. Noah? How can u even suggest him with his history with miami. Dudley?

stephen-a-smith-o.gif

joe needs to stay. he was here for half a season and put up some VERY good effort in that time. dont be a prisoner of the moment and see he had a bad series just now so he needs to go. that doesn't negate what hes done up until 2 weeks ago. deng... i dunno im on the fence. his defense is solid, but his shot is falling off. nothing a summer of practice can't cure.

Wasn't serious about Noah, just throwing some names out there in a really daint Free Agency pool. Anderson and Gasol are decent scorers, we need better scorers... we are beggars and not the choosers. Joe... I never liked Joe. Grinds out the offense with his Iso's, passive aggressive (understatement) defense, and his low-volume, indecisive shooting. I hope we do not bring him back, even for the Min. I would rather Deng gets paid and comes back before him but with our lack of assets, I would rather we spend that money on a scorer or back-up Center and promote Winslow (Gotta do it sometime, definitely no better time)

Just how I feel

winslow has the tools of defense. which is EXCELLENT. defense is something that really cant be taught. its a mindset. u either have it or u dont. offense can be taught, quickly. if he put his mind to it, he could come back NEXT SEASON with at minimum a good midrange, new handles, and a decent 3. but thats up to him and the coaching staff.

i want them (coaching staff) to link with dragic and come up with fast tempo sets, and plays. we've been coasting on talent instead of skill and its run its course. dragic loves uptempo. we have the legs to run uptempo at LEAST half the time. and weve seen it works in our favor. its time to buckle down. like u said, theres nothing really to snatch in the FA pool right now. time to improve what we do have while trimming the fat

I think next year with improvement Josh and Winslow should be starting. Josh can play the 3 he's long enough and plays good D. Wade dragic Josh Winslow and bosh. This is all of course if we don't resign whiteside and bosh returns. If we resign whiteside and bosh returns we can play big and small. Wade dragic Winslow bosh whiteside. With TJ and Josh coming off the bench for the guards. Maybe mcbob can find his shot in the off season and not get hurt during the regular.

Yea' with FA looking how it's looking our best chance at rapidly improving our situation is putting Winslow to the fire and giving him some real responsibility and hopefully he takes to it immediately

Was just going to say that, if we could keep Hassan and get Rich and Winslow starting at the 3 & 4 we could be a much more athletic rebounding team (as all as more of them start to learn to box out)

They both have potential as offensive players imo, starting with those guys would be a great step for them and the team

We could definitely push the ball up tempo with that line up .

On one hand, I think we should try to force the issue of more offense by acquiring high-volume, mid-efficiency guys like Mirza Teletovic or Ryan Anderson that might have tendencies to be defensive liabilities and just let Spo clean it up like he has shown he can

or

Get cheap glue guys that can shoot and defend at a decent rate like Jared Dudley and Jon Leuer. Dudley can play the 3/4 and Leuer can play the 4/5, if we went out and re-signed Whiteside and Wade and guys like those two, we would have two decent big men and average shooters for Bosh insurance and a solid balanced roster at least.

I don't think I see much bigger FA's talkng to us or trade noise happening unless someone forces their teams hand, going to be interesting to say the least

Richardson at the 3? Nopeeeeee. And who's gonna teach them to box out? We haven't focused on it thus far

Rich played some three this year, according to bballref he played about 20% at the three in the Playoffs

I don't think it is unthinkable. His natural position is SG//SF imo, he's not a point guard... Just need a little more size for a starting SF

Imo the players to work to a point, especially Winslow offensively where you can close the game with:

1. Dragic
2. Wade
3. Rich
4. Winslow
5. Whiteside

Best combination of offense, defense, length, shooting, athleticism, bbiq.

I don't think it's ideal size wise, but it may be good enough to dictate the opposing team's lineup.

*Free agency pending

My takeaways from Pat Riley's presser...

Very high on Spo and his program. Brought it up multiple times and credits his system for making Richardson and Dengs such an effective 3 point shooters. Also mentioned how Wade improved shooting performance in the playoffs by going through Spo's shooting program. Overall, Spo and his staff seem to be something Riley is proud of. The way the team will play moving forward will be dictated by the players the team has.

Hassan Whiteside is the team's #1 priority this off season to the point where he's offered to take him around town to look for houses. They felt he came into the program with a lot of anger, but he's now past that and feels he's ready to take more responsibility. Feels his defensive ability make the team more explosive on offense.

See's Winslow as a front court player down the line, while still being able to be a play maker. Spoke highly of Richardson and expects Tyler Johnson and Briante Webber to make a big impact this summer league. See's them as two way players.

When asked about Haslem, Pat says it up to Haslem to decide what he whats to do. He still thinks Haslem can be effective within a certain role and praised his leadership ability and credits him for setting the tone in the locker room. One of the main reasons things ran smoothly off the court.

He challenged Dragic. Says there are no more excuses this time around. He needs to improve some aspects of his game. Spoke of times when the coach's system breaks down and how he needs to be the type of player to make things happen if the system fails. Will have him on a workout program in the off season.

Riley also had nice things to say about McRoberts and says his play, while unorthodox, can be very effective. Just needs to be healthy.

As for free agency, Riley still says the best way to win is with proven players. If the opportunity to land a big whale presents itself they will explore that possibility. Talked about how they had a set foundation during the "big three" era, and talked about how he likes the players we have and need to get back to that.

Edit:
Forgot about Bosh. He says they are still figuring things out with Bosh. They want him back, but it's still unclear about his health.

Also forgot about Wade. Says they will sit down and figure things out whether its a long term contract or short term. Considers him a lifer like Haslem and will be on the team moving forward.

i dont buy half the stuff pat is saying. but i do like that we made whiteside priority #1. wade shooting better cuz of spos program? nonsensical. deng was a corner 3 shooter before he got here, and his numbers have gone down lately as far as shooting goes. i know nothing about webber. is he nice? nice things to say about mcroberts? lol. i wonder what haslem will do. i LOVE him, and the history is obvious. but does he still want to play? he already gets limited minutes. if he wants a position on staff its obviously waiting on him. fizdale needs a promotion *cough*
