OFFICIAL 2016 @MiamiHEAT SEASON THREAD::::

should we move on from the RIley era?

I think so. All this "in Riley we trust stuff" is way overstated. If reports are true that he never even called Wade during free agency, then this guy is losing his touch as a GM. Wade leaving the way he did and Wade being a prominent figure in the NBA, I'm sure potential FA are going to take note of this and think twice before coming here. Right now other then the weather, Miami is not considered a desirable place to play anymore.

Wade was the reason why Shaq, LeBron, and Bosh came. IMO.

All Pat Riley did was hand over the litagation and financials to Andy Elisburg and Andy made things happen.

But I'm sure I'll get ridiculed for saying all this so its whatever...

My biggest and most glaring concern and you're 100% correct

should we move on from the RIley era?

To what? Some analytics guy so we can become Houston or Philly? Nah.

You guys aren't seeing the big picture. We're going to go into the 2017 offseason with more cap space than anybody and building pieces like Whiteside, Dragic, Winslow, and Richardson.

I disagree that no free agent is going to want to sign here. Dwyane's peers? Sure. But these younger cats probably couldn't care less about what just went down. Money talks, give them a mansion on Star Island with Brinks trucks pulling up to the driveway and they'll sign right on the dotted line.

I'm not putting too much stock in potential FA's not coming here.

This league being a business goes both ways. Wade gone cause of it, FA's will come for the same reason. Money talks, no state tax, weather, women, etc.

That $13 sale is live online too but the site is so slow

There are two sides to every story...

Here's an exerpt from RealGM Heat fan on Riley-Wade's relationship:

"It's simple.

Lebron betrayed Miami and treated Pat Riley like TRASH throughout the secretive 2014 departure of Lebron.

Riley was humiliated and abused by Lebron. Lebron completely ignored Riley, refused to have the end of year player exit meeting (which is required of every player), and ignored every call and text from Riley. Then, when Lebron finally allowed Riley to have a meeting with him, Lebron and his friends were watching the football game and made Riley compete with a television for Lebron's attention. Not to mention sabotaging our chances of rebuilding by dragging out FA process and also stealing our players.

Throughout all of this, Dwyane Wade and Lebron were on vacations, plane rides, and best of friends.

If you were Pat Riley and you were treated like that by Lebron or anyone........ and then you see your old friend and "ally" Dwyane Wade over there being BFF's with Lebron acting like nothing is wrong........ how would you feel?

This is why the relationship between Wade and Riley soured.

And I don't blame Riley at all. I would do the same if any of my friends didn't have my back in that situation. The Heat and Riley were used and abused, and Wade was cool with it.

And then..... when contract time came..... Riley no longer treats Dwyane as a player he loves and cares for. If Wade isn't gonna be loyal to Riley/Heat, then Riley will treat Dwyane as a cold businessman. This offended Dwyane, because he expected "loyalty" and respect from Riley. Riley expected the same from Dwyane in 2014 and on. Neither side was going to give it anymore.

So the Heat don't fight to resign Wade and simply make him a good offer, but an offer that doesn't hurt the Heat's future.... and Wade leaves.

That's how it went down."

And like I've been saying I'm positive LeBron was in Wade's ear this whole process. @SportsTaxMan on Twitter said after taxes, Wade is only getting 3.1 million more.

I went to the store at the AAA before work today. Showed up early and there was already a line. Once I got in the dudes at the front had already raided all the nice swingmans. There were no authentics, apparently the store employees cleaned those out before we were even let inside. In the end the only swingman I could get was a red Latino Nights size L. Got three player tees though. For $55 total I can't complain.

You keep saying this narrative of 'mansion on Star Island with Brinks trucks of money' (like a notable FA wouldn't be able to cash out anywhere else) but I don't think that's going to sway a premier FA coming to Miami, especially if their main motive is money over winning.

And Winslow & Richardson would have to take giant leaps forward for them to be attractive pieces for FA's. I like what I see from them (especially Richardson) but way too early to tell if they actually pan out.

I think its time for Pat to pass the reigns to Nick, its his time now....

Ya'll laughed at me about Briante Weber...fair enough. The savior is here!

The Rodney McGruder era has begun

At the end of the day, my argument is that letting Wade walk was a necessary evil. Might it make the free agency game a little harder? Maybe. But keeping Wade would've taken the Heat out of the free agency game altogether.

Quoted for emphasis. For all of you all talking about keep Wade at all costs stuff, I would love to see this thread 3 years from now when he out there looking like washed Kobe while the Heat have no chance to bring in other free agents. Ya'll would been calling Wade all kinds of names then. This is chess not checkers.

If Wade no longer trusts management and is not going to help the team win after being offered a fair deal, you gotta part ways. It's hard, but it had to be done.

And for those saying Pat never called Wade, its been stated that Wade didn't want to be contacted directly. He wanted to negotiate through his agency. Apparently that's the way they've always done it in the past. Again, this is business. Riley not calling up Wade was not personal. It was protocol.

As for future free agents, I think Miami will be attractive becasue of the young pieces they currently have. Despite this recent PR hit they still have a great culture, a well respected coach and a great location. Most importantly, they'll have the money to compete for the top free agents.

Looks like we signed Derrick Williams. I don't hate it but uhhh yeah

That was fast

Looks like they'll be bringing back Beno Udrih and Haslem was well. I can dig it... Haslem brings that strong veteran presence in the lockerroom and Udrih is actually a decent backup PG.

^Agreed about the cap space. Sure Dwade lured them down here, wouldn't have happened without that, but also wouldn't have happened if we didn't have the room and that's all Front Office moves. I don't understand why it has to be one or the other getting the credit and not both.

Glad they are keeping Haslem. Can't do this to another vital member of the franchise. Plus with how much he's been keeping Hassan in check this was needed.

Also heard they are looking at Dion Waters........

Please no Dion....please

I'll come back and comment on all the other stuff later when I have time. But please god no Dion

All these guys being signed are actually so that they use up the amount needed to keep Tyler Johnson. As shown here:
Heat now has $14.5M of cap room to utilize if before Tyler Johnson match, $10.0M if after, or $15.0M if not at all.

UD back 4mil/1yr
Signed Willie Reed, 2 yr deal but 2nd yr is a player option
Matched Tyler Johnson's Offer

And we acquired Luke Bobbitt from the Pelicans. This team could win the championship.... the D League one :smh:

Making moves :pimp:

Looks like the tank is here to stay this season ,don't even mind that much though tbh. There won't be a much better time to have one of these tanking seasons given all the talent in the draft next year

Coach Spo is going to make all these guys look good next year. I feel like we're going to be much better than expected.
