Is It Ever Acceptable to Walk Out On A Dining Out Experience?

Why order a 15 dollar mojito if you think it's too expensive?

And if you didn't order it then why are you mad tho?

Walking out after ordering is on par with thievery

A similar scumbag move I've made was not picking up something I ordered over the phone.

Felt bad the entire night.
one time I called a korean spot thinking it was another spot, and went to the place I thought I called and picked up someone else's order. didnt realize it until I got home.

That inadvertent scumbaggery

@Hennessy waiting 10 minutes after sitting down before being offered a glass of water is rude in any language. For me it's not about food (I speak to the manager in those instances), but the service.

Asian people ain't gonna serve you unless you call them over.

But I was about to walk out Teddy and the Bully Bar. Dude was horrible at happy hour while me and my girl was there. We only had one drink in 45 minutes of being there, food was not what we ordered, we were heated. We are here to drink and tip.

But brunch was on point another time I went before that day.
Yeah it's a shame getting bad service at a place with good food and you frequent.

Remember the time we waited 30 min at that one spot near me and when we asked what was going on the chick told us some BS lie instead of telling us she lost our order. Asked her for that mac and cheese while we waited another 15 min to get our original order. She gave us a Dixie cup sized portion to split. The audacity. When we finally paid the manager offered us a discount of $1.XX

That was insulting. Yeah we should've just walked out...but that food did end up being good. The service

Yep the disrespect they gave us with the $1.xx of the price. MFer 50% to free is what I was looking for.

Me and my girl went not too long ago and they close the doors 15 minutes early on us. They don't care about that money and F the customers is their mission statement

But the food is good...

Im quick to walk out if I am receiving bad service or in most cases not being provided a service.

another business will give an expected service and will get my money.

In reality tho, why not speak to the manager?

1.) Free food
2.) Better service since you already complained
3.) Free food.

They want you coming back, any reputable restaurant is going to make things right.

I've had it happen where I grab a manager and explain in a very polite way what happened, and basically say "based on my experience here today, I would not return here again." And I've gotten free food from that.

I also had it happen where I requested to speak to the manager, and the employee refused to get the manager, so I just left. This was before I even ordered my food, but when you wait 25 plus minutes for a server to greet you, that's unacceptable.

Come to think of it, I had this happen at a local bar recently too, we asked for a food menu, two girls walk in, bartender starts flirting with them, totally forgets to take care of us, we are literally 5 seats down, drink empty, no food, I stared the bartender down for a good five minutes waiting for him to acknowledge us, timed another 10 after that, and finally told him we were waiting for a food menu and had empty drinks for over 15 minutes and everyone behind the bar was ignoring us while he was flirting with the girls, asked for the bill, paid, and left. Haven't been back since.

I honestly think a lot of people mistake servers for being rude at Asian restaurants when they aren't. Not even Asian spots exclusively, any ethnic spot where they are speaking their language in their and many of their customers speak the same language. Many of them don't have English as their first language so they may not understand you well, you may not understand them well, and even if there is understanding they may seem disinterested/dismissive/rude because of their lack of fluency in English. Y'all should really just try to be patient with them. Many times they are having just as difficult a time dealing with you as you are with them.

Think about it, when we say things like, "nah I'm good", or, "that's ok don't worry about it", we understand what we're saying to eachother. When you say something like that to a FOB Chinese person it doesn't translate. If someone is struggling to speak English to me, I keep my replies as slow and simple as possible. I've seen a lot of people turn ratchet on Asian servers and they don't even understand why they are being yelled at.
word. for the most part americans have a thing about them where this is how it done in this country so you should do it this way, not understanding culturally things are very different. it's not always 1=1.

funny thing about speaking slow, my homie got swerved in Japan. he just assumed the waiter only spoke Japanese, he was speaking so slow and not speaking in full sentences while ordering. then when he was done the guy was like "cool, want any water?"

only time I've done this was when I was in highschool

me and my buddy asked for the bill and didn't get it after like 20 minutes so we just walked out assuming they didnt want our money

Never walked out after being served and eating, but have just got up and walked out after sitting for 5min and not being greeted by a server.

5 mins tho? Is a 5 min wait that serious??

When the restaurant is practically empty and you're sittin there w/ your child for someone to even take a drink order. People that work there passing you and not saying a thing. It's not about seriousness as much as it's about principle. If I'm deciding to patronize your establishment I expect at least regular service. But I bet had I waited and eaten, etc theyd be expecting a tip because they did their job.lol

Man i remember i left work on my lunch break, so i went to Hooters on 42nd street, i got so damn saucy, i ended up leaving without paying. my drinks had to come up to atleast $120 on shots of Henny and Whiskey alone. bruh i went on the train, fell alseep, was 3 stops away from my apartment in Brooklyn, ended waking up in Harlem

5 minutes is a lot though. For a host to seat you and then you wait 5 minutes before a waiter comes to introduce themselves and ask for drinks is a longtime. That's usually done within the first minute. Hell, imagine pulling up to a drive through and waiting 5 minutes in your car before someone comes on the speaker to take your order.

Maybe they just wanted you to have some time looking through the menu.

Never up and left, but have told them I'm not paying for this and then walked out.

I've done this too. They got our order confused with the people next to us and when the other people left without paying, they tried to get us to pay the bill. Told them not only am I not paying for their food, I'm not paying for mine either and left.

This was at IHOP btw at like 4am
