Is It Ever Acceptable to Walk Out On A Dining Out Experience?

Never up and left, but have told them I'm not paying for this and then walked out.

I've done this too. They got our order confused with the people next to us and when the other people left without paying, they tried to get us to pay the bill. Told them not only am I not paying for their food, I'm not paying for mine either and left.

This was at IHOP btw at like 4am
Why didn't you just switch places with the people next to you?

Never walked out after being served and eating, but have just got up and walked out after sitting for 5min and not being greeted by a server.

5 mins tho? Is a 5 min wait that serious??

When the restaurant is practically empty and you're sittin there w/ your child for someone to even take a drink order. People that work there passing you and not saying a thing. It's not about seriousness as much as it's about principle. If I'm deciding to patronize your establishment I expect at least regular service. But I bet had I waited and eaten, etc theyd be expecting a tip because they did their job.lol

Maybe they just wanted you to have some time looking through the menu.

 Nah b, they usually give you that time AFTER they take your drink order.

5 minutes is a lot though. For a host to seat you and then you wait 5 minutes before a waiter comes to introduce themselves and ask for drinks is a longtime. That's usually done within the first minute. Hell, imagine pulling up to a drive through and waiting 5 minutes in your car before someone comes on the speaker to take your order.

Exactly, I could understand if they were really busy, I expect to wait, but if theres only about 5 tables occupied in the place in different sections, I don't expect to wait long at all.

Yall ever raise hell at a taco [emoji]127790[/emoji] truck?

I've never had to, the Mexicans at the taco truck in my hometown show love. Hit me w/ the extra pulled beef, fresh salsa and the jalepeno on my tacos :pimp:

Man i remember i left work on my lunch break, so i went to Hooters on 42nd street, i got so damn saucy, i ended up leaving without paying. my drinks had to come up to atleast $120 on shots of Henny and Whiskey alone. bruh i went on the train, fell alseep, was 3 stops away from my apartment in Brooklyn, ended waking up in Harlem :smh:  . never even made it back to work on my lunch break. mind you Harlem to Brooklyn is atleast 1 1/2 hrs on the train.

shout to Hooters for the free drinks though
Was this before or after that tr*nny topped you off [emoji]128064[/emoji]

Only time I've ever walked out was when I was seated but nobody came to even bring a glass of water or take an order, I gave it 15 minutes and just left

Never just left after eating after a bad experience, just pay the bill, take the L, and never go back again.

for people that complain about service at an empty place, do you guys just sit there waiting for something to happen?

why not just call the waitress over?

I wouldn't even go into an empty place unless some vouches that the place is good. Lol

They use that as an excuse to be rude or mess with your food too, or tell you some nonsense like "this isn't my section."

I've eaten at empty places and the food was food. Probably just went on slow days. I did that at this Indian spot / deli and the food was awesome.

There's plenty of good food spots that don't get busy until HH or later in the evening. If I'm taking a late lunch during work at 2:30, I don't expect a local joint to have many people in there dining. Most of their lunch rush is back in the office.

Yes one time.

Cheddar's in Brandywine, MD.

They had opened up a few weeks prior to us going there (group of 6 maybe)?

1. Took longer than expected for the waiter to show up (offer water/take appetizer orders, etc). No big deal though.
2. Waiter was rude.
3. Took close to an hour (possibly more) for the food to come out. If I am out with just my wife, I would have probably said something already by that point, but with a bigger group, sometimes that's different.
4. They served chicken which was blatantly still pink to one of my family members.
5. They brought out all of the orders except mine and the waiter forgot to put it in (not necessarily a big deal as I wasn't hungry by this point and was more worried about my family's orders).
6. The next table over was served raw chicken as well.
7. No sign of the manager.

A whole section of restaurant got up and left including ours.

I really don't expect 5 star service, just a nice waiter with a nice attitude who can fill up my drink. I'm sure the restaurant is doing fine now, but because of that experience alone I refuse to go back to there.

I might as well copy and paste this into yelp, lol.
