BET is commemorating the 20th anniversary of AZ's debut album Doe Or Die. What makes it more interesting is that the entire thing is narrated by none other than Rakim.

The retrospective is broken down into a 6-part series. THe first two parts, which can be watched below, chronicle the events throughout Anthony Cruz' life that transformed him into AZ. Watch them below.

Enjoy.

As a west coast cat I can honestly say I feel Az's steelo much more than Nas's. He always had a buttery smooth flow and the lyrics/concept/metaphors were right there on par with it, top it off with that voice. Dude is a menace. Dope production and beat selection too

 Underrated if you ask me

Man AZ was that dude. His first 3 albums were all on point.

He's just stoic, and smooth. Like, you can tell when a guy fakes being smooth. AZ is the total opposite. He's the epitome and definition of cool. Indeed, the most underrated. His music is everlasting.

Just started gettng into Az this year and man ive been missin out on tru hip hop, flow is one of the best I heard, imma check this out, who better to narrate than the god himself

Just finished the doc :pimp:

I always felt Doe or Die was like the spiritual successor to Illmatic. I played Illmatic and then DOD and both blended in perfectly

I always felt like AZ was Nas' only true competitor. Like, Foxy said, after hearing AZ's verse on LAB, Nas had to change his :pimp:
