Anyone here work in the CA Marijauna Indsutry?

I don't know where that 10-15k number came from but you can't open a sandwich shop for that much less a highly regulated dispensary. In MA you need 500k cash in an escrow account before you can even think about spending the 30k for an application.

Don't think there's much to be made off stocks unless you're investing TONS of money

It's all about actually being in it, I don't know jack about it but like some said, business is booming and if you got cash on hand and know people getting into it you can make some serious cash

During election years those stocks jump and fall at incredible rates. I'm talking about 50% jumps daily.

So where did you go to make those investments?
I just use my etrade account. I'm not trying to be responsible for anybody losing money and these are penny stocks. I wouldn't really **** around if you can't afford to lose it. You're essentially betting on voting outcomes before they happen.

How is it a complete fraud? And penny stocks cant be that much of a risk tho right?

damn you dudes in la are freaking lucky and the people in the other 4 legalized states

Think it was some investigative show, Dateline, 20/20, or something but white people are cashing in in Colorado I assume Washington too. Seems like you gotta get in in the beginning or it gets saturated but still money to be made.

You need to start doing something, anything, right now if you want to be successful in this industry.

I'd HIGHLY recommend you go to some trades show/expos to find what interests you most. You'd be surprised at all the different goods, products, and services people are getting involved in. If you already know what you want to do and really want to make moves it's relatively cheap to buy a booth at an expo and show off whatever you're doing. Best way to meet people because odds are whatever you are doing there is someone else who will visit your booth and have a way to supplement your business even more. Ex. You have an expensive machine to produce high quality wax and you meet someone with a small vape business who wants to partner with you to provide cartridges to put your wax in and distribute

In DC, there are only 6 groups allowed to grow on a large scale for medicinal use. Only one of these groups is minority owned. This is somewhat of a hot topic right now, and for good reason.

With DC's population being ~50% black, and the amount of blacks that have been incarcerated for non-violent marijuana crimes in the past, it would be a travesty if blacks and other minorities were left out of this industry. Since the industry is still in it's infancy (at least in DC) there is still a lot to be considered in terms of laws and regulations.

One thing that a lot of us are pushing for is a statute to be put in place that requires you to have lived in DC for at least a couple of years before you can start a business in this industry. The fear many of us have is that the big guys from CA that have been doing this for a while already will come into DC, set up shop, leave, and then collect their money. This would put up high barriers of entry and then the majority of the money being made wouldn't even be spent and reinvested into the fabric of DC. By requiring business owners to have lived in DC for some years, you have a better chance at ensuring everyone gets a fair slice of the pie (it's a BIG pie) and that the profits can be reinvested into the city where the business owners actually live to stimulate the DC economy. More money circulating in DC, more jobs created, tourism, more money the goverment gets in taxes. No one really loses here. I believe there will be regulations put in place that also cater to small disadvantaged, minority/women owned businesses. See 8(a) Business Development Program for an example of how this may work. DC was voted the best place to start a business for the second year in a row now

Another thing...

Kids have been killing eachother in DC over weed. Now that it's decriminalized, people are less afraid of getting caught with it and people are using it more and more recreation. That is fine, except for now the demand has increased to a point where the supply can't keep up. Before you'd have turf wars over crack and other hard drugs. Now, there's turf wars over weed because of the demand. These are poor, 18-22 year old kids killing eachother :smh: :x Many experts believe the increased demand and stagnant supply is the reason for this violence that was never associated with weed. It's another reason people are pushing for more lenient laws.

But I would not wait until those lenient laws are passed to strike. If you are serious about getting in then you need to be already doing something right now.

Unless you have vast knowledge, seasoned, or know the right people, the industry is very risky. People get into because they love to blaze and think it would be easy to make a business off of it, wrong.

Had a handful of friends try to start a growing op, only to lose over $60k and phase out of the business.

Unless you have the infrastructure in place already and have buyers already set up, I would really think it out....

This. The industry is extremely volatile so I dont want to risk investing any money right now. Im waiting for federal legalization before jumping in.

Like @Hennessy said, I believe it is best to jump in before federal legalization.

I definitely want to go to one of these expos. I want to see whats going on in the industry .

High risk = high reward

Opening a dispensary is a short term thing at a lot of areas. Some things like leafly are impervious to the change though. Rather invest in something that will always be in demand despite frequent shift in the law and how strictly it's being enforced.

I didn't say anything about dispensaries , I have 0 interest in selling or growing the product.

I am only interested in MJ tech/software.

I have a strong tech background specializing in the Point of Sale Industry. I have worked for a few of the top orgs and none of them are even considering MJ Software despite it being a no brainer. I have some ideas but I have been neglecting them because I feel like the DMV area will be one of the last to embrace recreational MJ. Guess I need to up the ante.
