Oahu, Hawaii Vacation Tips? Vol. Tagged, you're it. ----- Update - Photos & video added on pg 3 & 4

Humidity honestly wasn't all that bad. Was basically tank top/jersey + shorts every day.

We had some random, heavy, but quick rain here and there.

So did you wear that all day? Were your shorts regular shorts or swim trunks? Did you bring clothes or go back to the hotel to change or even change at all for the day?

I stayed in Waikiki and my hotel was right next to the beach so going back to change/shower was no problem.

Just regular shorts. Only wore trunks to the beach.

Button up and jeans one night when we went to a nicer place for dinner + club after.

For sure, we plan to go all around the island which is why it may be difficult to change/shower.

And I don't exactly know when I will and will not be in the water seeing as everywhere you look around is water

I'd imagine the water is salty af. Goggles are advised?

I'm not one of those open my eyes in the water types. Didn't wear goggles though.

I know you tryna be prepared, but don't over think it man. Enjoy yourself.

That. Make sure to leave yourself a day or two to be spontaneous or just lie on the beach. Give yourself time between attractions and try not to stuff everything into your itinerary. You don't have to hit everything. Hawaii will always be there.

Goggles only needed if you're snorkeling btw.

use a mask if you snorkel. goggles in the ocean is for herbs unless you're a triathlete or something. white dude wearing goggles on a beach in hawaii is like wearing a sign that says rob me (waikiki beach doesn't count).

What the hell am I thinking. I can barely swim  Didn't even realize I'd probably be shoulder deep in water mostly. I guess I just really want to see stuff in the water.

Snorkeling is so much more fun if you can swim freely, but you can always use a floatie or one of those foam noodles. When I snorkel in the deeper ocean, I'll use one of the noodles just to relax and catch my breath.

Some parts of the water at Hanauma Bay are really shallow so it'll be cool. Also, I always go to Target/Walmart and buy those cheap snorkeling sets (googles and snorkel) instead of renting the gear. When I am done, you can donate it to the shops there or keep it for later.

Being the muscle-y stud that I am, I don't float well on water. A pool noodle makes snorkeling a lot easier and enjoyable for me. I recommend using rash guard or compression shirt so that your back doesn't get roasted

So you guys suggest purchasing my own snorkeling gear? As well as a noodle or snorkel vest of some sort?

finna hop on some of these groupon deals for my trip in late aug.

tandem parasail comes out to around 75$, compared to the company advertised price of 180$

Hit up sharks cove and do the snorkeling yourself. Just be careful with rocks. Water shoes are a must.

Hm, so should I cancel the snorkeling reservation and just go out and explore on my own?

And better to have flippers or water shoes?

If they take you out on boat, those tours take you out further to spots where you would have never been able to reach on your own. Might be able to spot sea turtles whereas Hanauma Bay & Sharks Cove you wouldn't. Hanauma Bay is super touristy, but I liked it out there a lot. For there, just rent out some gear and roam free.

Depends on where the tour is taking you snorkeling. Hanauma Bay and a few spots are just off the beach so you can easily do it on your own. I signed up for one of those catamaran tours and they took us to 2-3 spots to snorkel, one spot was so money where there were about 8-10 sea turtles and a few rays. The interesting part was we were not that far from land and there were a few people who swam there. I'd never do that though, too hardcore. If you take a tour, they should provide all the gear from mask/snorkel/vests.

The only problem with Hanauma Bay is how packed it gets. It kind of pisses me off seeing everyone standing on the corals like they are rocks.

Definitely use flippers if you're out in the deeper ocean.

If you can't swim don't try to do too much. Swim at Waikiki and Haunama Bay. Looks can be deceiving when it comes to the water, with the current things can get real real quick.

Also it's been hot AF recently, wouldnt even bring pants.

What's there to do as far as nightlife? I'm heading there tomorrow for a week. Will be with my ol' lady who's expecting, so safe to say it's going to be pretty lowkey. Not looking for anything too crazy at night, maybe just a nice spot to eat, to a walk/catch a view, or some live music.

Buho is a nice place to chill, it's on the roof of Victoria secret in Waikiki. They have music throughout the week.

Dont the weekly fireworks on Fridays nights @ 8pm

this thread makes me miss hawaii. Was there in January with the fam def visit Leonard's and have shaved ice. Also huanama bay was soo nice and relaxing that walk back up that hill tho. Cant wait to go to Hawaii again

Bro no lie... I almost died last time we went swimming. Current dragged me out to the ocean, didn't even realize because I was on a boogie board.

By the time I realized it, I was like 200 yards out. The more I swam against, I would go nowhere wasting energy, and when I tried to swim along with it, it dragged me out further.

So I had to yell for the Jet Ski to come get me. Real talk I was embarrassed as hell, but nope, I wasn't dying that day!

leonards is great. def gonna grab some this week. my son loves malasadas. hanauma bay is the best place for a beginner to snorkel. no waves. no current. plenty of fish.
